Champions Retreat Golf Club is a 27-hole private golf club located just minutes from Augusta, Georgia. This championship golf course brings together, for the first time, three of the greatest names in the game, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player. These legends each set out to design nine signature holes on a masterful course to be sculpted on 365 acres. Skyward Georgia pines, long-standing hardwoods, and numerous wetlands along the Savannah River. They succeeded, as these courses, combined with charming amenities like luxury Golf Cottages and a private, natural setting, provide Members and their guests a truly unique experience not easily found in the United States today. Additionally, Champions Retreat has played host to the Augusta National Women's Amateur seven times since 2019.
The Spray Technician will be responsible for assisting in all related tasks to daily course maintenance. Candidate must have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, knowledge of proper chemical and fertilizer applications, and equipment operation. The candidate will be trained in all aspects of golf course maintenance and management of daily operations.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment.
  • Instruct equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
  • Assist in all chemical applications and/or operate and calibrate chemical application equipment.
  • Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
  • Schedule all daily activities and maintenance tasks so that they are completed properly and efficiently. This includes any special projects, materials needed, and coordination with other assistants and/or managers.
  • Provide proper training for employees.
  • Follow-up on progress of assigned daily tasks.
  • Properly maintain bunkers.
  • Maintain fertilizer and pesticide records, calibration sheets, Material Safety Data Sheets and employee disciplinary forms.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of maintenance building and surrounding grounds. This includes the tool room, fertilizer/chemical rooms, equipment storage area, wash rack, sand bins, break room, bathroom, office, and the grounds surrounding the building and front entrance.
  • Maintain chemical storage/mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations and for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and helpers.
  • Check all equipment and carts for damage and cleanliness and ensure proper storage at the end of the day.
  • Always have knowledge of recent weather and the effects on the golf course.
  • Daily monitoring of all turf areas for moisture stress.
  • Walk on and monitor all greens daily and communicate any changes to the Golf Course Superintendent as soon as possible.
  • Ensure maintenance buildings are properly secured at the end of the day. This includes locking all doors, turning off lights, etc.
  • Work with other departments to ensure that tournaments and daily play are on schedule and run smoothly; Must maintain the marking of the course.
  • Maintain a running list of projects.

Job / Skill Requirements:
  • 2-4 year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field.
  • Pesticide Applicator License
  • At least two years of golf course experience.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Team player with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to dedicate their time and effort to achieve department goals.
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends and be flexible with changes as requested.
  • The ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in varying weather conditions with potential exposure to inclement weather.
  • Be able to stand or walk for up to five (5) hours without sitting.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor with activities that include bending, lifting, stopping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.
