Position Overview

The Ag Inputs Section of the Georgia Department of Agriculture includes the regulatory programs for Pesticide, Seed, and Fertilizer.

This program enforces state and federal rules and regulations governing pesticides, and administers all state and federal regulations related to seed and fertilizer.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

Under general supervision:

  • Perform routine inspections and comprehensive investigations to determine compliance with state and federal regulations and laws related to fertilizer, pesticide, and seed.
  • Routinely create and write technical reports and correspondence.
  • Provide applicable support to the regulated community and public by enforcing laws, rules, and regulations about the processing, labeling, transporting, storing, distribution, and selling of regulated products.
  • Inspect and investigate for compliance with applicable health, safety, and/or environmental laws and regulations and investigate suspected violations as needed or requested.
  • Report compliance findings to GDA office staff, EPA, USDA, and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications And Skills

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

  • Postgraduate work or a degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience conducting regulatory compliance inspections and investigations with local, state, or federal agencies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands

1. Potential for standing for long periods of time.

2. Must be able to lift 50 lb. boxes/bags of seed or fertilizer.

3. Intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving.

4. Potential for exposure to the outdoor elements for extended periods of time.

5. Potential for exposure to a wide variety of temperatures during various times of the year.
