FermentationSpecialist

  • Timing: The start date of this position is not yetfinalizedas it will coincide with the construction progress of our facility. We expect the incumbent will start in either Q3 or Q4 of 2026.
  • Location: This position is based in Richmond, Indiana.The incumbentcan work remotely initially butmust be based in Richmond, Indiana full-timeprior to the facility start-up(a competitiverelocation package is available).
  • Work schedule:
    • Monday to Friday,Days
    • Occasional overtime, evenings and weekends, will berequired

Reporting to theQuality Manager,you will have the opportunity to work closely with ourTechnical Manager,manufacturing operations team,customers,equipment vendors,andprocess engineeringteamtostart-upandoperatean industry-leading precision fermentation facility.You will serve as an internal fermentation expert andbe a key member of the facility's upstream processand tech transfer effort.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, set-up,and executelab-scale fermentation experimentstovalidateprocess parameters.
  • Support the Technical Manager in thetechnical transferof fermentation processes from customers to internal operations, including optimization of the plant seed train.
  • Provide oversightand supportto theinoculation lab area, including culture preparationfor the plant seed train.
  • Provideoversight, support,and guidanceto the operations team on fermentationmediarecipes and inoculation procedures.
  • Maintainaccuraterecords of experiments, observations, and process adjustments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensureregulatory complianceand continuous improvement.
  • Maintain lab organization and cleanliness.
  • Follow good laboratory practices tomaintaingood record keeping practices.
  • Assistwith the development and improvement ofdocumentation, methodsand applybest practices,standards and proceduresforqualityand operations.
  • Support the internal Quality and Manufacturing teams asrequired.
  • Investigate quality incidents to help reduce out of specification products.
  • Championemployeeand product safety andparticipateinkey safetyandfood safetyreviews.
  • Build strong relationships andinterfaceeffectively withcolleagues.
  • Completeother duties asrequired.

Job Requirements:

  • The incumbent must be based in Richmond, Indianaprior to the facility start-up.
  • Bachelor's Degree in either Physical Science (such as Microbiology, Fermentation) or Engineering, isrequired.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience withlab or pilot scale fermentationisrequired.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Previouswork experience in food manufacturing or biomanufacturing isrequired.
  • Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and microbial growth required; abilityto train others in these techniques isrequired.
  • Knowledge ofinstrumentation and analytical methodsused in fermentation monitoring isrequired.
  • Familiarity withquality systemsand complaint-handling processes isrequired.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • PCQI or HACCP certificationor equivalent is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • Self-driven, collaborative, andresults-oriented.
  • Energized at the idea of helping to create and build a positive work culture.
