What is a federal sales account manager?

A Federal Sales Account Manager is a professional responsible for managing and developing business relationships with government agencies and federal clients. Their primary goal is to sell products or services that meet the specific needs and compliance requirements of these agencies. They often manage large, complex accounts, coordinate with internal teams to respond to government bids and contracts, and ensure successful delivery of solutions. This role requires strong knowledge of federal procurement processes and the ability to navigate government contracting regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a federal sales account manager?

To thrive as a Federal Sales Account Manager, you need a solid understanding of government procurement processes, sales strategies, and contract negotiation, often supported by a bachelor's degree and prior federal sales experience. Familiarity with CRM platforms, government acquisition systems (such as GSA schedules or SAM.gov), and certifications like Certified Federal Sales Professional (CFSP) are valuable. Excellent relationship-building, communication, and strategic thinking skills help you navigate complex stakeholder environments and build trust. These competencies are crucial for effectively securing government contracts and meeting sales targets in a highly regulated, competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by federal sales account managers when working with government clients?

Federal Sales Account Managers often navigate complex procurement processes and stringent compliance requirements unique to the public sector. Building trust with government clients requires patience and a deep understanding of regulations such as FAR and agency-specific guidelines. Additionally, the sales cycle can be lengthy due to budget constraints and approval hierarchies, so persistence and strong relationship management skills are essential. Collaboration with internal teams, including legal, technical, and proposal staff, is also critical to ensure bids meet all specifications and deadlines.

Job description

Due to rising demand across the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey markets, Lattitude is expanding our Sales Account Manager team. We work directly with homeowners to deliver modern energy and home improvement solutions that improve comfort, efficiency, and long-term savings. Our growth has been driven by strong customer satisfaction and consistent enrollment results, and we’re looking for motivated individuals to help us continue that momentum.

We are currently seeking a Sales Account Manager who enjoys working with customers, building trust, thrives in an energetic environment, and looks forward to guiding homeowners through smart improvement decisions. As a Sales Account Manager, you’ll be engaging directly with customers in a consultative, relationship-driven environment.

If you’re energized by meaningful conversations, problem-solving, and helping customers make confident decisions about their homes, this role could be a great fit for the Sales Account Manager position.

What You’ll Do:

  • Complete hands-on training to develop a strong understanding of solar and home improvement solutions as a Sales Account Manager.

  • Engage directly with customers in a professional, approachable manner, using consultative sales techniques to provide solutions.

  • Guide customers through the entire sales process from initial conversation through enrollment.

  • Ensure clarity, transparency, and confidence at every step.

  • Educate customers on product features, savings opportunities, and service details.

  • Maintain high ethical standards and professionalism while representing the company.

  • Work closely with the Sales Account Manager team members to improve performance, share best practices, and contribute to a positive, goal-oriented culture.

  • Address customer questions or concerns with care, using problem-solving skills to deliver a smooth and positive experience.

What We’re Looking For In A Sales Account Manager:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience in sales, account management, client relations, customer service, home improvement, or solar is a plus, but not required. We provide training.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with a wide range of customers.

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working in a performance-based environment.

  • Solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to stay composed and professional.

  • Team-focused attitude with a desire to grow and contribute to shared success within the Sales Account Manager team.

  • Commitment to honesty, integrity, and customer-first values.

  • Reliable transportation for local travel within the territory is a must.
