The Opportunity

You will step into a pivotal, hands-on leadership role directing field operations for a trusted, family-owned civil construction company. Your expertise will bridge the gap between engineering plans and field execution, driving precision grading, high-quality earthwork, site development, and asphalt production. This position gives you the autonomy to lead crews, operate equipment, and build infrastructure that supports local communities.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead and coordinate daily earthwork, site development, and asphalt paving operations to ensure projects remain safe, productive, and on schedule.
  • Direct crew members, assign daily responsibilities, and monitor work quality and production.
  • Work alongside the crew and operate heavy equipment when needed.
  • Interpret complex civil plans, grading plans, elevations, specifications, and technical requirements to guide site preparation accurately.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment including loaders, compactors, skid steers, motor graders, excavators, and dozers.
  • Establish and verify precise site grades using laser guidance, GPS technology, grade-control systems, and traditional field methods.
  • Calculate material volumes, trucking requirements, equipment needs, labor requirements, and daily production targets to optimize resources.
  • Oversee site preparation tasks including demolition, clearing, grubbing, excavation, subgrade installation, base installation, drainage, finish grading, and paving support.
  • Coordinate hauling cycles and equipment use to prevent production delays.
  • Monitor elevations, drainage, compaction, pavement sections, material placement, and project specifications.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of field production, equipment hours, labor hours, trucking, delays, and site conditions.
  • Coordinate routine equipment inspections, maintenance needs, and repairs to reduce downtime.
  • Enforce company safety procedures and project-specific requirements.
  • Communicate field conditions, plan conflicts, production concerns, and material needs to project management.
  • Support the training and development of equipment operators and crew members.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 5 or more years of experience in a leadership, foreman, or comparable field-leadership role within civil construction, earthwork, site development, roadway construction, or asphalt paving.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in heavy civil construction beyond the leadership requirement.
  • Proven experience operating heavy earthwork equipment, including excavators, dozers, motor graders, skid steers, loaders, and compactors.
  • Strong ability to read and accurately interpret civil engineering plans, grading plans, elevations, cross-sections, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and checking grades using laser equipment, GPS systems, and grade-control technology.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, subgrade preparation, base installation, compaction, drainage, and paving operations.
  • Strong mathematical and geometric skills required for precise material, production, and grade calculations.
  • Ability to calculate material quantities, hauling requirements, trucking cycles, production rates, and crew needs.
  • Ability to lead employees while remaining actively involved in field production.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to meet company driving requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in South Florida weather and field conditions.
  • Flexibility to work occasional night shifts, weekends, or extended hours based on project requirements.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent practical education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus.
  • Spanish-English bilingual ability is a plus.
  • Experience with South Florida soil conditions, limerock base, local materials, drainage standards, and municipal or FDOT projects.
  • Experience leading complete site-work operations from clearing and excavation through finished pavement.
  • FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I or II certification.
  • FDOT Asphalt Paving Level I or II certification.
  • Advanced Maintenance of Traffic certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Weekly pay cycle with consistent overtime potential based on project schedules.
  • 401(k) retirement savings program featuring employer matching and safe harbor contributions.
  • Medical insurance options.
  • Paid time off encompassing holidays and vacations.
  • Annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing opportunities.
  • Travel project compensation, including a dedicated per diem allowance when applicable.
  • Access to professional training programs, manufacturer training, and safety certifications such as OSHA.
