Job description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities related to aircraft support equipment, facilities, hangars, fueling systems, and ground service equipment (GSE) at the FBO. This position ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operations while maintaining compliance with FAA regulations, environmental requirements, company standards, and industry best practices. The Maintenance Manager leads maintenance personnel, manages preventive maintenance programs, controls budgets, and supports exceptional customer service for corporate, charter, and general aviation clients.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Operations

  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Oversee maintenance of:
    • Ground support equipment (tugs, GPUs, air start units, lavatory service equipment, fuel trucks, etc.)
    • Hangars and airport facilities
    • Fuel farms and fueling systems
    • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Ensure equipment reliability and minimize operational downtime.
  • Coordinate repairs with vendors, contractors, and service providers.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain compliance with FAA, OSHA, EPA, local, and airport authority regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits.
  • Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities and equipment records.
  • Support Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives and risk mitigation programs.
  • Manage environmental compliance requirements related to fuel storage and hazardous materials.

Leadership & Personnel Management

  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate maintenance technicians and support personnel.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop employee training plans and ensure technical certifications remain current.
  • Manage contractor performance and service agreements.

Budget & Asset Management

  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets.
  • Control inventory of parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
  • Analyze maintenance costs and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Recommend capital improvements and equipment replacement plans.

Customer Service Support

  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to aircraft operations and customer service.
  • Support FBO management in maintaining a first-class facility appearance and operational readiness.
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree in Aviation Maintenance, Engineering, Facilities Management, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 5+ years of maintenance management or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in aviation, FBO, airport operations, facilities management, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Experience managing fuel systems and ground support equipment is highly desirable.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of FAA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management software (CMMS).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Budgeting and project management experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and facility-related issues.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and perform inspections.
  • Availability for on-call and emergency response situations.
