What is a fashion video job?

Fashion video jobs involve creating, directing, filming, and editing video content specifically for the fashion industry. These roles can include videographers, editors, directors, and producers who work on projects such as runway show recordings, behind-the-scenes footage, promotional videos, and social media content for fashion brands. Professionals in this field collaborate closely with designers, stylists, models, and marketing teams to bring the visual narrative of a brand or collection to life. Creativity, technical video skills, and a strong sense of style are essential for success in fashion video jobs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fashion videographer?

To thrive as a Fashion Videographer, you need expertise in camera operation, lighting, video editing, and a strong sense of visual storytelling, often supported by a degree in film, media, or a related field. Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, as well as familiarity with DSLR or mirrorless cameras, is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and excellent collaboration skills help you capture and convey the unique essence of fashion brands. These skills are crucial for creating visually compelling content that resonates with audiences and elevates fashion campaigns.

Additionally, capturing the essence of a brand's aesthetic while ensuring high production quality can be demanding. To address these challenges, clear communication, meticulous pre-production planning, and flexibility during shoots are essential. Building strong relationships with collaborators and staying updated on industry trends can also help ensure a smooth and successful production process.

Great stories deserve great video. Join Hearst Magazines' Central Video team and help bring some of the world's most iconic media brands to life through compelling, platform-first content that reaches millions of viewers every day. If you're energized by celebrity talent, cultural moments, and fast-paced production, this is an opportunity to make an impact across a portfolio of industry-leading brands.

About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines is one of the world's largest publishers, with a portfolio of 30 brands that reach millions of consumers across print, digital, video, social, and experiential platforms. Our brands inspire, entertain, and inform audiences every day through premium storytelling and innovative content experiences.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Produce and direct high-quality video shoots in studio and on location, working with talent ranging from emerging creators to A-list celebrities.
  • Develop creative pre-production materials that capture timely, buzzworthy, and culturally relevant moments tailored to individual talent.
  • Lead productions from call time through wrap, ensuring seamless coordination between talent, crew, editorial teams, and brand stakeholders.
  • Partner with multiple Hearst Magazine brands-including Cosmopolitan, Delish, Esquire, ELLE, Harper's BAZAAR, and Good Housekeeping-to create engaging video content aligned with each brand's unique voice and audience.
  • Identify and produce compelling social-first clips from longform content for platforms including YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other emerging channels.
  • Manage production logistics, including crew coordination, transportation, releases, scheduling, media delivery, and on-set operations while maintaining budgets and timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, post-production, graphics, and production teams to deliver polished content that meets editorial, creative, and publishing objectives under tight deadlines.
  • Monitor video performance and leverage audience insights, platform trends, and analytics to inform future creative strategy and storytelling.

Qualifications (What We're Looking For)

  • 3+ years of experience in video production, preferably in fast-paced editorial, digital media, entertainment, or similar environments.
  • Demonstrated experience producing and directing both longform and short-form video content across platforms such as YouTube, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other social channels.
  • Experience directing celebrity or high-profile talent with confidence and professionalism.
  • Strong editorial instincts with a keen eye for visual storytelling, pacing, framing, and audience engagement.
  • Deep knowledge of pop culture, emerging digital trends, and social video best practices.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines simultaneously.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and resourceful with outstanding communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • Experience in editorial video production is preferred.
  • Hybrid role based in New York City with an expectation of working in the office four days per week, plus on-set production as needed. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends is required.

Benefits (What We Offer)

  • Work with the Best: Collaborate with top-tier professionals across media, advertising, tech, fashion, lifestyle, and publishing, shaping the future of these dynamic industries.
  • Grow Your Skills: Unlock your potential with access to innovative training programs, immersive workshops, and exclusive industry events.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid work, empowering you to balance professional success with personal priorities.
  • Foster Connection & Belonging: Join our Employee Resource Groups and help create a welcoming workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered.
  • Wellness First: Prioritize your well-being with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance from Day 1.
  • Plan for Your Financial Future: Enjoy competitive financial perks, including a 401(k) plan with a generous company match.

The base salary range for this role is $71,400-$75,000. This position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
