Technician I - High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Technician II - Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate's degree and two years of experience as a veterinary technician, including work with research animals.
Job Description:
University of Florida's Veterinary Community Outreach Program (VCOP) is recruiting for a Veterinary Technician to join their team centered around providing medical care to shelter and rescue animals. The program is designed to introduce students to the challenges of veterinary practice in both community and shelter environments and give experience in spay and neuter techniques plus preventative medicine of canines and felines. This position works closely with clinicians and students providing necessary care to adoptable pets. This is a fast-paced area with a strong teaching component. Technicians provide support by assisting veterinarians with exams, treatments, anesthesia, and surgery, as well as providing insight, instruction, and demonstration to veterinary students.
Example of Veterinary Technician Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Provide veterinary technician support for VCOP
• Perform general nursing care such as venipuncture, catheter placement, patient restraint, treatments, medication administration, and sample collection
• Document in electronic medical records
• Perform anesthetic nursing skills such as, but not limited to, intubation, advanced anesthesia monitoring, local and regional blocks
• Accurately perform drug and fluid calculations
• Ensure that patients are prepped for surgery in accordance with hospital standard in a timely fashion to keep the service flowing
• Assemble surgical supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures
• Maintain accurate anesthesia records
• Monitor and maintain aseptic techniques
Expected Salary:
Non-credentialed $18-22/hr
Credentialed $20-25/hr
Required Qualifications
Technician I - High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Technician II - Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate's degree and two years of experience as a veterinary technician, including work with research animals.
Preferred
• Graduate from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology OR
• Credentialed veterinary technician
