Position Description
Posting Number 01087 Position Title Work Study - Assistant Fashion Design Department School of Design, Arts, and Communication: Fashion Design Position Summary
This position will be responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator, Studio Manager, faculty, staff, and students during scheduled classes and Open Studio periods with their course-related technical fashion design projects.
Education/Experience
Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University, both academically and judicially Fashion Design major with at least a 3.0 GPA. Junior status, and previous technical fashion design experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
Ability to work at least 7.5 hours per week during the academic semester. 
Proficient in clothing construction, flat patternmaking, draping, tailoring, and the operation of sewing and pressing equipment. 
Ability to guide the fashion design students in executing their technical fashion design projects. 
Ability to work effectively with the faculty, professional staff, and peers in the Fashion Design program. 
Ability to assist the instructors during scheduled technical fashion design classes during the day and evening. 
Ability to work independently and supervise Open Studio periods for students during the day. 
Ability to read, listen, and communicate information and ideas through spoken and written language. 
Ability to use various means of communication (e.g. telephone, computer, other electronic devices) to work with students, peers, and outside contacts. 
Must be organized, dedicated, punctual, responsible, and detail-oriented. 
Must have excellent time management skills and be ability to work under pressure.
Physical Requirements
Medium work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Fingering, standing and/or sitting, walking, talking and hearing. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing and using industrial equipment.
Essential Functions
  • Assist the students during selected classes and Open Studio periods. 
  • Provide support to the faculty and the staff by assisting with technical work related to the academic program. 
  • Assist the students during scheduled technical fashion design classes. 
  • Work independently and assist with the day-to-day operation of the fashion design studio.
