LOCATION: Metal Container Corporation in Jacksonville, FL

SALARY:

  • $37.774 per hour ($56.661 OT Rate)

  • 76 hours of straight time, 8 hours of OT per pay period.

  • Quarterly bonus eligible based on KPIs.

  • Double time for working on a holiday + holiday pay (a regular day's pay).

SHIFT:

  • 12-hour shifts (6:00am-6:00pm and 6:00pm-6:00am)

  • Rotate day and night shift every 4 weeks.

  • 3 shifts on, 4 shifts off then 4 shifts on, 3 shifts off.

  • Every other month there are 6 shifts off in a row.

  • Full calendar schedule provided on first day of employment.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for the fabrication, maintenance, repair, polishing, and setup of precision tooling used in aluminum can manufacturing operations. This role supports production by ensuring bodymaker tooling, including punches, redraw dies, ironing dies, domers, and related components, are maintained to exact specifications for optimal can quality, productivity, and equipment performance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manufacture, repair, rebuild, and maintain precision tooling used in can-making operations.
  • Polish and lap carbide and steel tooling surfaces to required finish specifications.
  • Set up and adjust bodymaker tooling, including punches, redraw dies, ironing dies, and doming tools.
  • Inspect tooling for wear, damage, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish.
  • Operate precision equipment such as grinders, lathes, mills, polishers, and measuring instruments.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, tooling specifications, and tolerance requirements.
  • Measure tooling using micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, optical comparators, and other precision instruments.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities on tooling and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot tooling-related quality defects and production issues.
  • Ensure tooling meets safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Document tooling repairs, modifications, measurements, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize tooling performance and can quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized tool room environment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical training, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Tool and Die Making, Precision Machining, or Manufacturing Technology.
  • Experience with precision grinding, polishing, lapping, and machining operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and geometric tolerances.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Welding experience preferred.
