About the Role
In this REMOTE role, the Farm & Ag Outside Sales Specialist is responsible for driving sales growth and expanding market share across Farm & Ranch retail, co-op, buying group, and independent dealer channels throughout an assigned territory. This role serves as the face of Tarter in the field, building strong customer relationships while identifying opportunities to grow distribution, improve retail execution, and introduce innovative products that support the “Back 40 to Backyard” lifestyle.
This position focuses on supporting hobby farmers, rural lifestyle consumers, landowners, and property owners with practical equipment and solutions designed for everyday use. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, relationship-driven, comfortable working independently, and passionate about agriculture, rural living, and outside sales.
The Farm & Ag Outside Sales Specialist will work closely with retail buyers, store managers, distributor partners, and internal sales leadership to execute growth strategies, improve product placement, and deliver exceptional customer support throughout the territory.
About the Qualified Candidate
  • REMOTE Home Office - Must be located near a medium / large airport hub to support ~30% travel. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of outside sales experience in Farm & Ranch, agricultural equipment, rural lifestyle, hardware, livestock equipment, or related retail channels.
  • Proven experience managing retail accounts, dealer relationships, or territory sales programs.
  • Strong understanding of Farm & Ranch retail operations, co-ops, buying groups, and independent dealer networks.
  • Experience conducting cold calls, prospecting new business opportunities, and developing customer relationships.
  • Ability to analyze sales trends, inventory movement, and market opportunities to drive revenue growth.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively within assigned territory, including overnight travel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and sales reporting tools.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
  • Experience working with major Farm & Ranch retailers, regional co-ops, buying groups, or independent dealers.
  • Knowledge of livestock equipment, fencing, tractor attachments, trailers, outdoor living, or rural lifestyle products.
  • Experience conducting line reviews, merchandising evaluations, and retail product training.
  • Background in territory development and new account acquisition.
  • Passion for rural lifestyle, hobby farming, land management, or outdoor living.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Agriculture, or related field preferred, but not required based on experience.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow an assigned sales territory by building strong relationships with Farm & Ranch retailers, co-ops, buying groups, and independent dealers.
  • Conduct regular in-person sales calls, cold calls, and prospecting activities to identify and secure new business opportunities.
  • Analyze sales trends, inventory levels, and market opportunities to develop action plans that drive sales growth and improve retail performance.
  • Conduct line reviews and product presentations with buyers and retail partners to expand product assortment and placement opportunities.
  • Introduce and promote new Tarter products and programs to customers through sales presentations, demonstrations, and training.
  • Partner with retail locations to improve merchandising, planograms, inventory management, and overall in-store execution.
  • Support seasonal promotions, trade shows, dealer events, and customer appreciation activities within the territory.
  • Provide product knowledge and sales training to store associates and dealer personnel.
  • Maintain consistent communication with internal sales leadership regarding market conditions, customer feedback, competitive activity, and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customer service, operations, product management, and marketing teams to support customer success.
  • Maintain accurate sales reports, customer records, and territory activity within CRM systems.
  • Represent the Tarter brand professionally while promoting a customer-first mindset and strong partnership approach.
