What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Farm Ranch Manager?

Farm Ranch Managers typically oversee daily operations such as managing planting and harvesting schedules, supervising staff, maintaining equipment, caring for livestock, and ensuring compliance with agriculture regulations. They may also handle budgeting, inventory management, and coordinate activities with agronomists, suppliers, or veterinarians. Responsibilities

General Manager (Store Leader)

Position Summary

The General Manager is the CEO of the store—owning total business performance across operations, merchandising, and people. This role leads a complex, high-volume environment spanning fresh, center store, and general merchandise, with full accountability for P&L, execution, and culture.

We are looking for a complete leader—someone who can run the business, elevate the product, and build a high-performing team. This is not a single-lane role. Success requires strength as an operator, a merchant, and a people leader, along with a strong curiosity for food and the ability to translate emerging trends into a compelling in-store experience.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Financial Ownership

  • Own full-store P&L: sales, margin, labor, shrink, and expenses
  • Translate market trends and competitive insights into clear, actionable strategies
  • Identify long-term opportunities and position the store to outperform the market
  • Make high-impact decisions on staffing, merchandising, and resource allocation

Operational Excellence

  • Lead daily operations across all departments with a focus on consistency, speed, and quality
  • Ensure execution of all company standards, food safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Establish a disciplined operating cadence that drives accountability and results
  • Navigate complexity and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment

Merchandising Leadership

  • Own the in-store experience across fresh, center store, and general merchandise
  • Drive merchandising strategy: seasonal planning, pricing, assortment, and inventory optimization
  • Leverage deep understanding of customer preferences and local market dynamics
  • Demonstrate a genuine curiosity for food—staying current on trends, exploring new products, and translating insight into differentiated store execution
  • Elevate product presentation and ensure the store reflects a best-in-class standard

General Merchandise Strategy

  • Lead and evolve General Merchandise categories including Baby, Beauty, Entertainment, Seasonal, and Texas Backyard/Farm & Ranch
  • Identify growth opportunities and refine assortment to meet customer demand
  • Align merchandising strategy with financial and operational goals

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 20+ managers across all functions
  • Build a strong leadership bench and succession pipeline
  • Own all talent decisions: hiring, promotion, development, and performance management
  • Create a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement

Change Leadership & Innovation

  • Lead the store through change with clarity and confidence
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and overall performance
  • Integrate data and insights from multiple sources to make informed decisions
  • Act as a change agent—driving innovation while maintaining operational discipline

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred (or equivalent leadership experience)
  • 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in grocery, retail, or food service
  • Proven success leading large, complex, multi-department operations
  • Demonstrated strength across operations, merchandising, and talent leadership
  • Strong financial acumen with a track record of delivering results
  • Deep understanding of food retail and general merchandise
  • Strong curiosity and enthusiasm for food, with the ability to translate trends and product knowledge into meaningful business results
  • Skilled in organizational development, coaching, and performance management
  • Effective communicator with strong decision-making and influencing skills
  • High adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving environment

What Success Looks Like

  • Consistent delivery of sales, margin, and operational targets
  • A high-performing, stable leadership team with a clear succession bench
  • Best-in-class execution across operations and merchandising
  • A store that reflects strong product, strong culture, and strong results
  • Ability to balance short-term execution with long-term growth
