Job description

Summary of Duties: Under the immediate supervision of a Streetscapes Supervisor, Foreman or a Senior Streetscapes Technician perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and renovation of streetscapes or community grounds, parks and recreation facilities, pathways, landscape, open space reserves, cul-de-sac’s, lakes and ponds, and other duties as assigned.  Right-of-Way position will include work related to right of way trash and litter collection.

Essential Employee Responsibilities: During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in support of development and maintenance of streetscapes, parks, grounds, park facilities e.g., mowing, edging, fertilizing, seeding, pruning, planting, and/ or removing weeds, trees and shrubs, clearing right-of-way areas and drainage with appropriate equipment.
  • Paint, repair and refurbish fixtures, signs, equipment and other miscellaneous items as needed.
  • Gather and dispose of debris, wood, trash, limbs, weeds, grass, trees, shrubs, plants and dead animals.
  • Operate and maintains equipment such as, lawn mowers, sod cutters, chainsaws, tree trimmers and chippers, air compressors, backhoes, farm tractors, forklifts, and other various hand and job-related power tools.
  • Participate in emergency response teams.
  • Employee may be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific to Right-of-Way:

  • Operate equipment and tools to perform trash and litter collection along the street right of ways.
  • Right-of-Way position will be required to sit for long periods of time.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Right-of-Way position will be required to sit for long periods of time but rarely crouch or crawl.

The employee is rarely exposed to high, precarious places; extreme cold; and explosives. 

Disagreeable: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk and frequent physical effort is required.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Safety-Sensitive: This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.

Experience:

  • Use of smart technology and geographical routing systems. Must be able to read and understand maps.
  • Operate and maintain lawn mowers, lawn edgers, UTV and mechanical blower, brush/tree trimmers and chippers, air compressors, backhoes, farm tractors, vehicles up to 26000 GVWR, various hand and job-related power tools.
  • Entry level knowledge to concrete, minor carpentry work, and landscape installation and maintenance are a plus.

Licenses and Certifications:  Must have a valid driver's license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.

Technical Skills:  Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Job Demands: Majority of the work performed by a Park Ranger is outside in all types of weather conditions.

Pre-employment Requirements: Pass pre-employment drug screening, pass background check, and eligible status on Motor Vehicle Report.
