What does a fall prevention coordinator do?

A Fall Prevention Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring strategies to reduce the risk of patient falls within healthcare facilities. They assess fall risks, educate staff, patients, and families about fall prevention, analyze incident reports, and recommend improvements to safety protocols. Their goal is to create a safer environment by coordinating interdisciplinary efforts and adhering to compliance standards. Fall Prevention Coordinators also track and report data to help evaluate the effectiveness of fall prevention initiatives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fall prevention coordinator?

A Fall Prevention Coordinator should have a background in nursing, physical therapy, or occupational therapy, along with knowledge of patient safety and risk assessment. Familiarity with incident reporting systems, data analysis tools, and relevant certifications such as Certified Fall Prevention Specialist (CFPS) are valuable.
