Job description

The Institute for Justice is excited to announce a new opportunity for lawyers who are in between judicial clerkships. IJ, the national law firm for liberty, brings creative, intellectually rigorous cases in federal and state courts around the country.
We recognize that judicial clerks often have gaps either before starting or in between clerkships. This program is an opportunity to use that time to gain meaningful experience and training in public interest litigation. Our Bingham Fellow program is a one-year paid position offering attorneys hands on experience litigating cutting-edge constitutional cases and advancing the rule of law under which individuals can control their own destinies. Fellows will be full members of case teams and participate in every stage of litigation. Bingham Fellows will work directly with clients and benefit from mentorship opportunities, expert media training, and a collegial work environment.
We are recruiting Fellows on a rolling basis to start in Fall 2027 and beyond. Candidates should be looking to fill a block of time either before starting a clerkship or in between two clerkships.
Candidates should have excellent writing and communication skills, relish the opportunity to create real-world impact, and demonstrate a strong background in constitutional law and an interest in IJ's mission. Bingham Fellows are paid an annual salary of $120K. IJ also offers superior benefits including medical, dental, vision and life insurance, generous paid leave, and retirement benefits.
To apply, please submit a resume, a cover letter indicating year available, and a writing sample. The writing sample should be from a legal brief or memo demonstrating complex legal reasoning. Later stages of the application process may involve completing a sample research memo.
IJ is an equal opportunity employer.
Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At IJ we value a diverse workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
