What is a faith formation assistant?

Faith Formation Assistants are individuals who support the faith formation or religious education programs within a church or faith-based organization. Their responsibilities often include helping to plan, organize, and facilitate educational activities, assisting with sacramental preparation, and supporting teachers or catechists in classrooms. They may also help coordinate events, maintain records, and communicate with families. The role is vital in fostering spiritual growth and community engagement among children, youth, and adults.

What are the typical responsibilities of a faith formation assistant during the program year?

A Faith Formation Assistant typically supports the planning and execution of religious education programs, including helping organize classes, preparing materials, and assisting with events like retreats or service projects. They often collaborate closely with faith formation coordinators, volunteer catechists, and families to ensure a welcoming and organized environment for participants. Administrative tasks such as maintaining attendance records, communicating schedules, and supporting volunteer recruitment are also common. Flexibility and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as responsibilities may shift according to the needs of the parish or program calendar.
