PLC Programmer / Factory Information System

Location: Oakville, CA

We are seeking a skilled PLC Programmer / Factory Information System with hands-on experience supporting automotive manufacturing, Factory Information systems, and plant floor automation. This role is ideal for a technical professional with exposure to GVOSS, PLC programming, HMI troubleshooting, industrial controls, and vehicle quality inspection processes.

The position will support production operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated inspection equipment, controls systems, and Factory Information System processes. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, maintenance, quality, and production teams to ensure reliable equipment performance, accurate inspection results, and continuous improvement across the manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and support PLC programs for automated manufacturing and inspection equipment.
  • Support Final Inspection Systems used in automotive production, including inspection stations, data collection systems, and quality verification processes.
  • Work with GVOSS-related systems, interfaces, standards, or tools used in vehicle operations and final inspection environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving PLC controls, HMI screens, I/O devices, sensors, vision systems, barcode scanners, network communication, and production equipment.
  • Support integration between automation equipment, inspection systems, and plant-level data systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis on equipment faults, inspection failures, downtime events, and recurring process issues.
  • Assist with commissioning, validation, testing, and launch support for new or modified automated systems.
  • Collaborate with quality teams to ensure final inspection processes meet production and customer requirements.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to improve uptime, quality, safety, and throughput.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including PLC logic changes, troubleshooting guides, electrical drawings, inspection procedures, and system backups.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities related to controls, inspection equipment, and automation systems.
  • Follow plant safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, change management processes, and engineering best practices.
  • Provide technical support during production shifts, launches, model changes, and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a PLC Programmer, Controls Technician, Controls Engineer, Automation Specialist, or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on exposure to automotive final inspection, vehicle quality inspection, or end-of-line production systems.
  • Experience with GVOSS or similar automotive plant floor systems, final inspection tools, or vehicle operations support systems.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, troubleshooting, and controls logic.
  • Experience with platforms such as Allen-Bradley PLCs, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, or comparable systems.
  • Experience with HMI programming, troubleshooting, and screen modifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot industrial networks, EtherNet/IP, device communication, I/O modules, sensors, actuators, and field devices.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics, control panels, safety circuits, motor controls, and automation hardware.
  • Experience supporting production downtime, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, inspection processes, defect tracking, and manufacturing data collection.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, production, quality, engineering, and IT.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Industrial Controls, or a related field preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting automotive assembly, body shop, paint shop, final assembly, or end-of-line inspection operations.
  • Familiarity with vision inspection systems, Cognex, Keyence, torque tools, scanners, printers, RFID, or traceability systems.
  • Experience with robotics, Fanuc, ABB, or other industrial robot systems.
  • Knowledge of SQL databases, production reporting systems, or manufacturing execution systems.
  • Experience with system backups, change control, commissioning, and launch support.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, 5S, and structured problem-solving methods.

Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment and may require time on the production floor, near automated equipment, inspection stations, conveyors, and final assembly operations. The role may require shift support, overtime, weekend coverage, or launch support based on production needs.
