JOB DESCRIPTION
The Aquatic Facility Operations Manager is responsible for the daily operational readiness, cleanliness, safety, and presentation of the New York Athletic Club's aquatic facilities, ensuring an exceptional member experience aligned with the standards and traditions of the Club.
This hands-on management role provides daily leadership to Aquatic Associates and Lifeguards and ensures consistent execution of Club standards. The Manager is expected to maintain a visible presence, proactively identify operational needs, and take ownership of their resolution.
The position will initially focus on day-to-day facility operations while developing broader knowledge of pool systems, water quality, compliance, and departmental operations under the direction of the Aquatics Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facility Operations, Staff Leadership & Member Experience
  • Oversee the daily readiness, cleanliness, organization, safety, and presentation of the Aquatics Center.
  • Maintain a visible management presence, conduct routine facility walkthroughs, and ensure opening, operating, and closing standards are consistently maintained.
  • Provide daily leadership and direction to Aquatic Associates and Lifeguards, reinforcing expectations for attendance, appearance, cleanliness, safety, professionalism, assigned duties, and member service.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback and address operational or staff deficiencies promptly.
  • Respond professionally to member needs and concerns and ensure aquatic spaces are prepared for daily use, programming, team practices, competitions, and Club events.
  • Foster a team culture centered on accountability, hospitality, safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence.
Safety, Compliance & Department Administration
  • Maintain required Pool Operator, CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguard, and Massage Therapist licenses/certifications, including expiration and renewal dates.
  • Support pool chemical testing, water-quality monitoring, safety inspections, emergency procedures, and required documentation.
  • Ensure required operational, safety, training, inspection, and compliance records are accurate and current.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling, payroll, attendance, training, and performance management.
  • Maintain operational procedures and checklists and keep the Aquatics Director informed of significant staffing, facility, compliance, and operational matters.
  • Continue developing broader Aquatics Department knowledge to provide increased management coverage and support under the direction of the Aquatics Director.
Supplies, Equipment & Maintenance
  • Maintain appropriate inventory and par levels for operational, cleaning, safety, testing, and member amenity supplies.
  • Ensure supplies, equipment, and storage areas are organized, maintained, and operationally ready.
  • Coordinate ordering and receiving to prevent shortages and support uninterrupted daily operations.
  • Inspect aquatic equipment and facility conditions and coordinate maintenance and preventative maintenance needs with Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience in an athletic club, aquatic facility, fitness, hospitality, or similar service-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in facility operations, staff supervision, cleanliness standards, inventory, and operational readiness.
  • Experience with indoor aquatics, pools, locker rooms, wellness facilities, or related operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of pool infrastructure, filtration, water quality, or mechanical systems preferred.
  • Pool Operator Certificate recognized by the NYC Department of Health required, or ability to obtain/renew within an established timeframe.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required; Lifeguard certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated attention to detail and accountability.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and select Club events.
  • Physical demands of the role include sufficient mobility for sitting, standing, bending, walking, reaching, climbing; moderate to heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, or carrying. Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, harsh or toxic substances and vapors. Incumbents must be able to work in water and operate equipment.
