Job description

The Brookfield Public School District is seeking a Temporary Facilities Supervisor to provide leadership and oversight of district facilities during a temporary vacancy. The length of the assignment is undetermined and will continue until further notice.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt temporary position based on an 8-hour workday (exclusive of a 30-minute unpaid break). The position is on-call 24/7 for emergencies. Compensation is $100,000 annually, prorated based on start date and duration of assignment.


General Statement of Duties

Responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of all facilities and equipment for the Brookfield Public School District, including direct oversight and coordination of maintenance and custodial personnel to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environments.


Supervision Received

Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Business and Operations.


Job Goal

To maintain school facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of the buildings may be made at all times.


Essential Responsibilities (not all inclusive)

  • Supervise, assign, and evaluate custodial staff and maintenance mechanics to ensure timely completion of work and repairs
  • Assist staff with physical work assignments as needed and directed
  • Ensure compliance with training programs to meet applicable local, state, and federal regulations (including bloodborne pathogens, indoor air quality, integrated pest management, MSDS, radon, lead, and PCB requirements)
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify repair and maintenance needs
  • Ensure all district buildings meet fire, safety, and health codes
  • Communicate promptly with the Director of Business and Operations and Superintendent regarding safety and security concerns
  • Maintain and update required state and federal compliance testing records
  • Coordinate with environmental consultants and outside agencies to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Serve as on-call contact 24 hours daily and respond to emergency situations as required
  • Establish maintenance priorities and oversee repair projects from planning through completion
  • Obtain quotes, prepare cost estimates, issue purchase orders, and ensure work meets specifications
  • Develop bid specifications for capital improvement projects as needed
  • Implement and manage preventive maintenance programs in coordination with building principals
  • Maintain snow and ice removal plans for all district properties
  • Coordinate with town agencies regarding weather emergencies and school closure decisions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Business and Operations or Superintendent

Knowledge and Skills

Must possess the knowledge and skill to successfully supervise the overall maintenance program for school facilities. Must be familiar with fire, building, electrical, sanitary, health, and safety codes.


Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field preferred; extensive facilities management experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Extensive experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, water systems, and construction projects required
  • Management of large teams/  leadership experience is required

Terms of Employment

 This position is not aligned with any bargaining union.  Salary is $100,000 annually, prorated based on start date and duration of assignment. This temporary position includes no health insurance or benefits. Leave time is limited to that required under Connecticut Sick Leave law. Work schedule as established by the Board of Education.
