Position Summary
The Engineering Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department, ensuring the hotel's building systems, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a safe, efficient, and guest-ready condition. This role provides hands-on technical expertise while supervising engineering associates, coordinating preventive maintenance programs, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with company policies, brand standards, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable maintenance professional who leads by example, develops team members, and proactively identifies opportunities to improve hotel operations and the guest experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Department Leadership
- Supervise the daily operations of the Engineering Department and provide leadership, coaching, and direction to engineering associates.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor work orders to ensure timely completion and high-quality workmanship.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional guest service.
Maintenance and Preventive Operations
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public spaces, mechanical systems, and hotel equipment.
- Perform and supervise repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical systems, appliances, and general building maintenance.
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, exterior grounds, and back-of-house spaces to identify maintenance needs.
- Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and emergency repair situations.
- Maintain the hotel's electronic lock system, key control systems, and other security-related equipment.
Vendor and Asset Management
- Assist with managing vendor relationships, service contracts, and preventive maintenance agreements.
- Coordinate outside contractors while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with hotel standards.
- Monitor inventory of engineering supplies, tools, parts, and equipment; assist with purchasing and budget management.
Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, health and safety regulations, and all company policies and procedures.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure associates receive required safety training.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Maintain compliance with brand standards and quality assurance requirements.
What You Bring
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of progressive hotel maintenance or facilities maintenance experience, including previous lead or supervisory responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting building systems.
- Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment specifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Trade school certification or technical education in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related skilled trade.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or hotel maintenance software.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- This position is based on property in Metairie, LA.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as business needs require.
- Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations outside of regularly scheduled hours when necessary.
- Frequently move throughout guest rooms, public areas, rooftops, mechanical rooms, and exterior grounds while inspecting, repairing, and maintaining hotel facilities.
- Frequently climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated or confined spaces.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move heavier items with appropriate equipment or assistance.
- Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach overhead, twist, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements while completing maintenance tasks.
- Ability to safely operate power tools, hand tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.
- Regular exposure to mechanical equipment, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, cleaning chemicals, varying temperatures, outdoor weather conditions, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position while completing maintenance records, reviewing work orders, ordering supplies, and communicating with vendors and leadership.
