Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Shop Fabrication Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, installation, maintenance, and field service duties. The ideal candidate will have mechanical aptitude, experience working with fabrication equipment and hand tools, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
This role offers a combination of shop-based fabrication work and occasional field service assignments at customer locations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform metal cutting, shaping, forming, shearing, punching, drilling, and stamping operations according to engineering drawings and project specifications.
  • Fabricate custom, prototype, and production components using various fabrication techniques and equipment.
  • Assemble mechanical systems and components while ensuring accuracy and quality standards are met.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and retrofit mechanical systems at customer facilities as required.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and company quality standards.
  • Operate fabrication equipment including brakes, shears, drills, threaders, rollers, saws, plasma cutters, punch presses, and stamping machines safely and effectively.
  • Operate forklifts, lifting devices, delivery vehicles, and service vehicles in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by properly storing tools, cleaning equipment, and removing debris at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, and customers regarding project status, requirements, and concerns.
  • Follow all company policies, customer site requirements, and safety regulations while working in the shop or at customer locations.
  • Ensure service vehicles are properly stocked with required tools and materials when performing field assignments.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures including PPE requirements to perform the job safely
Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education).
  • 1+ years of experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, mechanical assembly, or related field.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication, forming, cutting, shaping, and assembly processes.
  • Welding experience including gas and arc welding methods on various metals.
  • Experience safely operating fabrication machinery and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to lift weight up to 80 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at varying heights, and in changing environmental conditions.
  • Occasional travel to customer locations in various weather conditions.
  • May require overtime, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
