Job description

Position Summary:
The Metal Fabricator Assistant will work closely with the Welder Fabricator to complete tasks in the metal fab shop. He/she will assist in welding operations as well as operate a variety of hand tools and saws. Learn basic operations and operate metal forming, bending and cutting equipment. Swing Shift work hours are 3:00PM - 11:30 PM.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Operate various power hand tools.
• Use machinery to bend, form, and cut metal parts.
• Read and interpret shop drawings (details) and be proficient at understanding key dimensions, angles, tolerances, and finish requirements.
• Work closely with the Welder Fabricator to achieve production goals.
• Perform work safely without accident or injury while maintaining a safe work area clear of hazards.
• Performs other related duties or special projects as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and other Abilities:
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, and follow directions, understand and interpret drawings, details, and written instructions.
• Ability to safely operate metal cutting equipment (iron worker, saws, grinder, sander, oxy-fuel torch, etc.)
• Ability to learn how to safely create weldments that are structurally and ascetically sound.
• Proficient at using measurement tools (tape measure, caliper, square, etc.)
• Detail oriented
Education & Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence including redlines and other technical communication. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization in order to effectively convey concerns or suggestions.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
