Primary Objective: In broad terms, briefly state the major purpose of primary objective of this position.
Trains and has advance skills. Operates assigned set of looms, producing first quality backing at expected rate of efficiency. Weavers will visually inspect the finished fabric and make quality determinations. Will perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Major Function and Scope: Using brief narrative statements, describe each major function of responsibility explaining the scope of the function as appropriate.
- At start of shift: record yardage, date, and employee number on Weavers Fabric Identification Record on each assigned loom.
- Mark fabric with quality identifier as instructed.
- Cycles assigned looms monitoring fabric for quality defects and loom malfunctions.
- Watch for looms down, determine cause, repair stop and restart loom as quickly as possible.
- For mechanical problems: flag loom (stepping up onto skid resistant area of take up if necessary), record issue on flag card, enter data in monitoring system (BARCO) if loom is down and turn fixer light on.
- As fill yarn is consumed, replace empty fill yarn tubes with fill yarn package.
- Check looms for warps that will warp out during the shift. At warp out fill out applicable forms, put up all flags, put in BARCO and turn on light.
- Put doffs on "Doff Board" and turn on light, as required.
- Measure warps, calculate yardage and complete split doff sheet, as required.
- Complete Short Roll form, as needed.
- Complete Weavers Fabric Identification Record for all doffed rolls of fabric.
- Record defects and issues with fabric on Weaver Fabric Identification Record.
- If a defect occurs, take appropriate action per "Primary Backing Specification" sheet.
- If loom is producing off quality, the weaver has the authority to stop the loom and should consult the supervisor for guidance.
- If a shuttle jam occurs, flag the loom for a fixer to repair the jam. Weavers do not fix shuttle jams.
- If a defect can be mended, either mend the defect at the loom or insert yellow card, and send to table. If questionable ask the supervisor.
- Draws reeds when assigned by the supervisor.
- May operate the QA Table if cross trained.
- Obtain an identified defective roll of fabric, placing it on the loading table using a powered industrial truck, if trained. If not trained to operate a powered industrial truck, ask a material coordinator to place roll of fabric on the loading table.
- Performs fabric inspection based on documented acceptance criteria.
- Observes fabric for defects such as broken picks, slubs, stripbacks, untucked selvages, etc. and repairs mendable defects. Records number of defects each one hundred (100) yards.
- Alerts the shift Supervisor/Department Manager and manufacturing of any quality problems observed during inspection of rolls being ticketed or inspected.
- Thread and use sewing machine and change needle in sewing machine.
- Other required procedures: count picks per inch, measure width of fabric, and starting machine.
- Records vital information on all rolls sent to the inspection table to enable follow-up.
- Makes a 6th quality ticket and after determining fabric quality, records and makes a finished ticket using correct procedure.
- After completing inspection, excess tails are removed using clippers, a finished ticket is attached to the end disc. The end disc is placed on the core and secured with a wire tie.
- Using a powered industrial truck transports roll of fabric from the inspection table to the strapping table.
- Distributes appropriate forms/papers.
- General Duties
- Participate in Safety programs and Neighborhood Watch.
- Works safely and orderly.
- Notify supervision of any hazardous or unsafe conditions.
- Maintains clean and orderly work area.
- Keep grease and yarn off FA and SU side of loom. Keep yarn and grease off catwalk and floor. All yarn waste must go inside the string waste can at loom.
- Perform all necessary miscellaneous work pertaining to the above job duties.
- Any other duties assigned by management.

- Ability to trouble shoot and take steps to correct quality issues and maximize efficiency.
- Ability to perform detailed work with yarn, including placing ends correctly through a series of small openings.
