Position purpose

Adjunct Instructor, Aviation Training Institute

Teach FAA part 147 curriculum in an approved FAA part 147 program. Classes consist of a variety of lectures and labs in technical subject matter. Minimum qualification is that the applicant hold an FAA mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings, and have a minimum of one year experience in the field, either civil or military.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Teach aviation classes to college students
  • Motivate students to study required maintenance subjects to achieve a successful career
  • Assess your own courses in achieving the desired student learning outcomes
  • Grade all activities for each student using standard method, and report grades on time
  • Assist in departmental improvement and student counseling as desired

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Minimum qualification is that the applicant holds an FAA mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings, and have a minimum of one-year experience in the field, either civil or military.

Education and/or Experience Requirements

  • A&P certification required. A bachelor’s degree in aviation or a related field is preferred. Experience in the aeronautical maintenance related field is also required. Strong prior teaching experience is an advantage.

Professional Skills

  • Communicate verbally, through written lessons and exams, update the syllabus to match each semester’s work, keep the class on schedule, assess the class accomplishment of stated goals and objectives and outcomes. Grade student verbal, written and exam performance, and complete the grade reports on time. Provide a positive image to motivate future qualified employees.

Work environment and physical functions

  • Some classroom work, with electronic podium and whiteboards. Some maintenance courses include lab work, on or around live aircraft or engines. Shared office space is available. Includes light aircraft work such as moving, minor disassembly and repair. Work may be performed outdoors in varying conditions

Preferred:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree and previous teaching experience. Extensive industry experience desirable.

Compensation:

  • The compensation rate for this position is expected to be $52.00 per hour.
