Extended Learning Coordinator information

What is an extended learning coordinator?

An Extended Learning Coordinator is an educational professional responsible for organizing and managing extracurricular and enrichment programs outside of regular school hours. Their role typically involves planning after-school activities, coordinating with staff and community partners, and ensuring students have access to high-quality learning opportunities beyond the classroom. They also monitor program effectiveness, handle logistics, and work to engage families and the wider community in extended learning initiatives. The goal is to support student academic achievement, social development, and overall well-being.

How does an extended learning coordinator typically collaborate with teachers and community partners to develop enrichment programs?

An Extended Learning Coordinator works closely with teachers to identify students' academic and personal development needs, ensuring that enrichment programs complement the school curriculum. They also partner with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to bring diverse learning opportunities, such as STEM workshops or arts activities, to students. Regular meetings and open communication with both educators and external partners are essential to creating engaging, high-quality programs that support student growth outside traditional classroom hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an extended learning coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Extended Learning Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, experience in program development, and often a background in education or youth services. Familiarity with scheduling software, student information systems, and sometimes state or district compliance tools is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities help in collaborating with staff, students, and community partners. These skills are crucial for designing impactful enrichment programs and ensuring smooth, effective operations beyond the traditional school day.
