Job description

We are actively hiring an Export Freight Coordinator to support WG McKay's freight forwarding operations, with a strong focus on outbound international shipments.

About the Role
This role plays a key part in executing export shipments across ocean and air, managing the full lifecycle from quotation through delivery. You will work closely with carriers, customers, and internal teams to ensure shipments are handled efficiently, compliantly, and on time.

This is a hands-on, coordination-focused role in a fast-paced environment. This is not a management position and reports directly to the Freight Forwarding Manager.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate export shipments across ocean and air (FCL, LCL, and air freight), with a primary focus on outbound international movements
  • Book shipments with carriers and airlines and manage transportation to receiving terminals
  • Coordinate door-to-door, CY-CY, and airport-to-airport shipments
  • Prepare and submit export documentation, including:
    • Shipping Instructions (SI)
    • CERS declarations
    • Certificates of Origin and related documentation
    • Air Waybills (AWB) and other carrier documentation
  • Prepare proforma invoices and support required export paperwork
  • File Verified Gross Mass (VGM) for applicable shipments
  • Coordinate with cartage/drayage providers for inland transportation
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and airlines and prepare customer quotations
  • Act as the primary liaison between customers, carriers, and service providers
  • Manage both outgoing and incoming freight, with a primary emphasis on outbound
  • Ensure compliance with export regulations and documentation requirements

Who You Are

  • A strong communicator who can coordinate effectively across customers, carriers, and internal teams
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to navigate logistical challenges independently
  • Thrives in an in-office, team-based environment

What You'll Bring

  • 3-5+ years of experience in freight forwarding or export coordination (ocean and/or air)
  • Working knowledge of export documentation and processes (e.g., CERS, shipping instructions, AWB)
  • Experience handling FCL/LCL and/or air export shipments
  • Experience negotiating rates with carriers and/or airlines
  • Familiarity with origin-side operations (quotations, bookings, inland cartage/drayage)
  • Dangerous Goods (DG) knowledge or certification is considered an asset
  • Air or Ocean certification is considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance mindset
