Position Summary:
The Process Engineer is a technical expert responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process of composite propellant. They play a crucial role in determining the necessary steps to manufacture propellant and propellant-loaded devices, such as rocket motors and gas generators, while ensuring they meet engineering requirements. This position collaborates with various departments, including Program Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Research and Development, Quality, and Product Engineering, to ensure the success of the products. The Process Engineer contributes to the development of manufacturing processes for new products and provides support for existing production processes. They serve as the technical owner of the production process, encompassing chemical processing, equipment requirements, work instructions, tooling design, automation projects, support production operations, and facility design.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Apply engineering principles to safely process propellants, pyrotechnics, and/or explosives for product development or improvement, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
• Develop processes, and techniques to enhance manufacturing capabilities and efficiency.
• Document and maintain all process documentations, including but not limited to: Bill of Materials, Process Flows, Work Instructions, etc.
• Understanding and experience in Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
• Develop robust processes for failure analysis and drive continuous improvement.
• Lead and participate in current and future product and facility development projects. Author comprehensive technical documentation packages including but not limited to: Test Plans, Test Reports, Presentations, Validation data package, etc.
• Coordinate and perform all necessary validation and / or process engineering evaluations as needed for manufacturing equipment.
• Deliver oral presentations summarizing progress on selected projects and programs to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical support and training to Engineering Technicians and operations involving them on current and future project activities.
• Estimate labor, equipment, and material requirements for production work and development projects.
• Adhere to standard practices and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Required Experience & Skills:

• BS/MS in Chemical Engineering, Material Science or a related field.
• Preferred 3+ years’ experience with propellants, pyrotechnics and/or explosives in manufacturing.
• 5+ years’ experience in process engineering or related field, preferably in composite propellant manufacturing or a related industry.
• Preferred strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and requirements for composite propellant and propellant-loaded devices or industry-relevant experience preferred.
• A working knowledge of energetic material regulations and safe handling/measurement.
• Familiarity with Program Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Research and Development, and Product Engineering processes.
• Ability to diagnose and solve complex technical problems.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational and prioritization skills.
• Ability to obtain approval through ATF to handle Nammo products and information.
