KBR's Exploration & Logistics (E&L) business unit delivers mission-critical solutions supporting global defense, federal civilian, logistics, engineering, and space exploration missions. E&L provides integrated capabilities across logistics and sustainment, mission operations, engineering services, readiness and modernization programs, scientific research support, and exploration initiatives in some of the world's most complex and challenging environments.

The business unit supports customers across the Department of Defense, federal civilian agencies, and commercial partners, delivering innovative solutions that enhance mission readiness, operational effectiveness, and long-term mission success.

Job Summary

KBR is seeking an experienced Senior Director, Business Development to lead strategic growth initiatives across the Exploration & Logistics portfolio. This position is responsible for identifying, qualifying, shaping, and capturing new business opportunities while developing long-term customer relationships and growth strategies aligned with business objectives.

The successful candidate will partner closely with division leadership, operations teams, solutions architects, and executive leadership to expand KBR's presence across defense, federal civilian, logistics, engineering, and space exploration markets. This individual will be accountable for pipeline development, capture execution, customer engagement, and achieving growth objectives that support the long-term success of the business unit.

The ideal candidate brings a proven record of business development and capture success, strong customer relationships, knowledge of government acquisition processes, and the ability to lead complex pursuits from opportunity identification through contract award.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic business development and capture plans aligned with Exploration & Logistics growth objectives.

  • Identify, qualify, and shape new business opportunities across defense, federal civilian, logistics, engineering, mission operations, and exploration markets.

  • Lead capture efforts throughout the full business development lifecycle, including opportunity identification, qualification, positioning, teaming, solution development, proposal strategy, and award.

  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with customers, industry partners, and key stakeholders.

  • Develop customer engagement strategies that strengthen KBR's position and expand market presence.

  • Partner with operational leadership to align growth initiatives with organizational priorities and capabilities.

  • Maintain and manage a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities using established business development processes and tools.

  • Develop and implement win strategies, competitive assessments, customer call plans, and capture plans.

  • Conduct market analysis and competitive intelligence activities to identify emerging opportunities and market trends.

  • Support the development of business cases, strategic growth plans, and investment recommendations.

  • Collaborate across business units to identify and pursue cross-functional opportunities that leverage KBR's full portfolio of capabilities.

  • Lead and participate in gate reviews, milestone reviews, and executive briefings supporting strategic pursuits.

  • Assist in identifying and evaluating strategic partnerships, teaming opportunities, and potential acquisition targets.

  • Provide mentorship and leadership to business development and capture personnel across the organization.

  • Ensure accurate forecasting, pipeline reporting, and growth metrics in accordance with business requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, Science, Technology, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of professional experience with a combination of government, industry, operational, program management, business development, and capture experience.

  • 10+ years of experience leading business development, capture, growth, or strategic planning efforts supporting U.S. Government customers.

  • Demonstrated success capturing and winning large, complex opportunities exceeding $100M in contract value.

  • Strong knowledge of federal acquisition regulations, government contracting practices, and customer procurement processes.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with senior government, military, and industry leaders.

  • Experience developing capture strategies, win themes, teaming strategies, and competitive positioning.

  • Strong understanding of defense, federal civilian, logistics, engineering, mission operations, or space exploration markets.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across geographically dispersed teams and organizational boundaries.

  • Ability to travel approximately 25-50% as business needs require.

  • Active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business administration, Engineering, Science, Public Administration, or a related discipline.

  • Active Top Secret security clearance.

  • Preferred 20+ years of professional experience with a combination of government, industry, operational, program management, business development, and capture experience.

  • Shipley Capture Management certification or equivalent business development training.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement certification.

  • Experience supporting multiple customer segments across Department of Defense, federal civilian, logistics, engineering, and exploration programs.

  • Experience managing strategic pursuits exceeding $500M in total contract value.

  • Demonstrated success capturing opportunities exceeding $1B in total contract value.

  • Knowledge of emerging government acquisition trends, contract vehicles, and procurement strategies.

  • Experience developing and executing growth strategies for complex technical and operational service portfolios.

  • Demonstrated success establishing strategic partnerships and industry teaming relationships.

  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, strategic investments, or market expansion initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of customer mission requirements in global logistics, readiness and sustainment, engineering services, mission operations, and exploration environment.

For Virginia Applicants: The expected salary range for this position in Virginia is $250,000 - $270,000. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, work location, and other job-related factors. This range is provided in accordance with Virginia pay transparency requirements and applies to candidates working in Virginia.
