What is an Exploit Developer job?

An Exploit Developer is a cybersecurity professional who researches and develops exploits to identify security vulnerabilities in systems, applications, or networks. They analyze software and hardware for weaknesses, create proof-of-concept exploits, and work with security teams to patch vulnerabilities before malicious hackers can exploit them. This role requires deep knowledge of programming, reverse engineering, and security protocols. Some exploit developers work in ethical hacking or penetration testing, while others conduct research for security firms, government agencies, or cybersecurity vendors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Exploit Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Exploit Developer, you need a strong background in computer science, reverse engineering, low-level programming (C/C++, Assembly), and vulnerability analysis. Job description

About Hinoki Security
AI is collapsing the cost of offense. What used to require a skilled exploit developer can increasingly be automated, and defenders are still working from tooling that was designed two decades ago: tools that produce endless lists of findings without telling anyone what actually matters or what to do about it.
Hinoki is building the AI-native platform that fixes this. We continuously map an enterprise's real exposure, figure out what is genuinely dangerous in the customer's specific environment, and drive the remediation through to verified resolution. Old scanners produce lists. We produce fixes.
We're backed by Andreessen Horowitz and led by a second-time security founder, most recently from Google. The platform is already in production at Fortune 500 enterprises.
Hinoki Security is searching for our first technical recruiter to join our growing team. In this pivotal role, you'll partner directly with our founder to drive high-priority talent initiatives and shape our recruiting function from the ground up. Our engineering and GTM candidates are often inspired by the technology we build and the real-world impact we deliver for our customers. If you're genuinely passionate about our mission, we want you to help share that excitement and attract top-tier talent to our team.
What You Will Do
  • Own the full recruiting lifecycle from sourcing to closing candidates across a variety of engineering roles, both listed and unlisted.
  • Proactively source exceptional technical talent using direct outreach, AI-powered sourcing tools, and creative channels.
  • Manage the end-to-end interview process to provide candidates with an outstanding experience and ensure we close top talent.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and hiring managers to define role requirements and align on ideal candidate profiles.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external recruiting agencies, ensuring a high-quality pipeline and consistency across all sourcing channels.
  • Plan and execute in-person candidate sourcing events in San Francisco, leveraging the local tech community and strengthening our employer brand.

What You Bring
  • 1+ year of technical recruiting experience, with a primary focus on engineering roles.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting at a startup or high-bar tech company, with a record of attracting and closing high-quality engineers.
  • Firsthand experience with modern sourcing tools and direct outreach (e.g., LinkedIn Recruiter, Juicebox, Gem).
  • Exceptional, responsive communication skills. You know when and how to be persistent with professionalism and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ownership of the recruiting process end-to-end, from sourcing through to offer negotiation.

Join us to build an exceptional team and make a real impact at Hinoki Security.
