Detailed Position Information
The College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama (UA) announces an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Clinical Psychology-Law in the Department of Psychology, pending Board of Trustees approval. A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited clinical or counseling program is required. The applicant must be license-eligible in Alabama.
Applicants whose research is in any area of Clinical Psychology-Law (Forensic Psychology) are encouraged to apply. At present, the research interests of faculty include forensic mental health assessment, legal decision making, psychopathy, and mental health public policy. We welcome applicants to compliment and diversify these areas. Responsibilities include maintaining an active program of research with the potential for external funding, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology, and mentoring doctoral students in our APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program.
The Clinical Psychology-Law area has a long-term working relationship with Taylor Hardin Medical Facility, the only forensic mental health hospital in the state of Alabama, Bryce Hospital, Jefferson County Jail, Tuscaloosa Police Department, and multiple community mental health facilities, among other community partners. The Psychology Department is composed of 37 faculty and just under 100 graduate students. The Department enjoys strong support from the Barefield College of Arts & Sciences and the University and just moved into a new state of the science facility, which houses specialized individual and shared research spaces. Faculty and graduate students are distributed in four clinical (Psychology and Law, Geropsychology, Health, and Child) and three experimental (Social, Cognitive and Brain Sciences, and Developmental) emphasis areas. The Department offers bachelor's degrees in psychology and in neuroscience, doctoral degrees in both clinical and experimental psychology, and graduate minors in neuroscience and in statistics.
Minimum Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA or CPA-accredited clinical or counseling program prior to August 2027;
- Completed an APA or CPA-accredited internship
- License eligibility in Alabama
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with faculty and students in the Psychology-Law subarea to promote research and practice at the local and national levels, with the promise of securing external funding. We prefer candidates with experience and interests in working in multidisciplinary teams. We are open to a candidate with expertise in any area of Psychology-Law, including correctional psychology, jury decision-making, restorative justice, etc.
