What is an experiment?

An Experiment job involves designing, conducting, and analyzing tests to explore hypotheses, validate ideas, or improve processes. It is commonly found in scientific research, product development, and data analysis roles. Responsibilities may include setting up controlled environments, collecting data, and interpreting results. This role requires critical thinking, attention to detail, and familiarity with experimental methodologies. Experiment jobs can exist in industries such as healthcare, technology, and manufacturing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an experiment?

I'm sorry, but 'Experiment' is not a recognized professional job title, so I cannot provide a relevant answer.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in experimental research roles, and how can these be managed?

Professionals in experimental research roles often encounter challenges such as unexpected results, equipment malfunctions, and tight project deadlines. Managing these issues typically requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication with team members. Collaborating closely with colleagues, maintaining detailed records, and proactively troubleshooting can help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of outcomes. Embracing a growth mindset and seeking mentorship can further support career development and resilience in this dynamic field.

What is the difference between Experiment vs Research Assistant?

AspectExperimentResearch Assistant
Required CredentialsTypically requires a degree in a relevant field; may need specialized training in experimental methodsOften requires a bachelor's degree; some roles prefer or require a master's or related experience
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, research facilities, or field settings conducting specific experimentsResearch labs, academic institutions, or industry settings supporting research projects
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in scientific, medical, or technical industries focusing on conducting experimentsCommon in academic, government, and industry research settings assisting with research tasks

While both roles are involved in research activities, an Experiment focuses on designing and conducting specific experiments, often requiring specialized technical skills. A Research Assistant supports broader research projects, assisting with data collection, analysis, and administrative tasks. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in research environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Own critical product surfaces end-to-end from ideation to production and beyond.

  • Build and evolve systems across React, Node.js, and Python that scale with customer growth.

  • Lead by example through hands-on development, technical mentorship, and thoughtful decision-making.

Job description

Experiment is one of the fastest-growing and most strategic bets at Amplitude. It sits at the intersection of product, data, and decision-making, and weโ€™re looking for a Senior Product Engineer to help take it to the next level.

Why this role matters

This isnโ€™t a โ€œtake tickets and ship codeโ€ role. Youโ€™ll operate as an owner, shaping both the product and the technical direction of a system used by some of the most sophisticated product teams in the world.

Youโ€™ll work across the stack, React frontend, Node.js and Python backend, to build intuitive, high-performance experiences that make experimentation accessible, powerful, and trustworthy.

What youโ€™ll do
  • Own critical product surfaces end-to-end from ideation to production and beyond
  • Drive product direction in partnership with design and product leaders
  • Build and evolve systems across React, Node.js, and Python that scale with customer growth
  • Leverage modern AI tooling to dramatically accelerate development, prototyping, and iteration cycles
  • Raise the bar for engineering quality - code, architecture, and user experience
  • Lead by example - through handsโ€‘on development, technical mentorship, and thoughtful decisionโ€‘making
  • Move fast on ambiguous problems, turning ideas into shipped, customerโ€‘facing value
What weโ€™re looking for
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Education: B.S. in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field
  • Proven experience operating at a seniorโ€‘level scope. Youโ€™ve led large, ambiguous initiatives with significant business impact
  • Strong fullโ€‘stack expertise (React + backend systems such as Node.js and/or Python)
  • A deep sense of ownership - you donโ€™t wait for direction; you create it
  • Exceptional product taste - you care deeply about UX, details, and building things people love
  • An AIโ€‘native mindset - you actively use and experiment with the latest AI tools to amplify your impact and rethink how software gets built
  • Ability to balance speed and quality in a highโ€‘velocity environment
  • Strong judgment in technical tradeโ€‘offs and system design
What sets you apart
  • You think like a product builder first, engineer second
  • Youโ€™re constantly reinventing how you work, using cuttingโ€‘edge tools and workflows to achieve outsized results
  • Youโ€™re energized by openโ€‘ended problems with no clear โ€œrightโ€ answer
  • You hold a high bar, not just for your own work, but for the team and product as a whole
  • You turn ambiguity into clarity and momentum
Why Amplitude
  • Work on a product used by thousands of companies to make better decisions
  • Be part of a team thatโ€™s expanding beyond analytics into a full digital optimization platform
  • Join a culture that values ownership, velocity, and craft
  • Have outsized impact on a top company priority
