Title: Medical Record Area Specialist

Location: Fountain Valley, CA / Predominantly Remote

Department: Identity

Status: Full-Time

Shift: Days (8hr)

Pay Range*: $23.00/hr - $31.57/hr

Position Summary

The Medical Record Area Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI).  The purpose of the Identity Department is to promote accurate, timely, and complete data that include a single identifier for each patient registered.  This job is 100% remote.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Provide support relationships between the HIM department, Epic team, application specialists, and other MHS staff regarding documentation following federal and company compliance standards and chart completion.
  2. Analyze and interpret detailed documents within electronic health record; determine a solution if inaccuracies in the chart are located
  3. Remediation of duplicate medical record numbers, overlays, and assisting with correction of any clinical and demographic information
  4. Report fraudulent potential incident to management
  5. Concise communication with others in order to obtain additional information to verify PHI
  6. Responsibilities include special reports, reconciliation and consolidation of duplicate medical records from EMRs throughout MemorialCare system
  7. Identity Department staff are proficient in use of various resources, such as Experian, Keane, OnBase, Google to verify PHI
  8. Identity Department staff must be available for urgent and non-urgent requests
  9. Attendance and maintain MTM daily
  10. Ability to follow company and department policies, procedures, and directives
  11. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner
  12. Ability to prioritize and multitask

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum of two years Medical Record/Health Information Management in a hospital and/or physician office setting is preferred or two years of experience analyzing and interpreting detailed information in the patient financial service setting.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
