Job description

MichieHamlett Law Firm is seeking a paralegal or experienced legal assistant to work in its Charlottesville office. We are a premier Virginia law firm of 17 attorneys with a statewide and national litigation practice. You will be part of a team responsible for case management, investigation, research, and communication with clients, co-counsel, and court personnel. You will support our practice by preparing documents like legal correspondence, working directly with clients on discovery, and maintaining case files for litigation and trial. You will also assist with the filings of pleadings in state and federal court, and help prepare for trials by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as required.

A strong candidate will be motivated and driven, able to multi-task effectively, thrive in a busy, team-oriented environment, and have experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Mentoring from experienced paralegals will help you hit the ground running.

Responsibilities:

·         Preparing legal correspondence and other documents for attorneys;

·         Organizing and maintaining documents in a cloud-based case management and document management system;

·         Meeting with attorneys and clients to review case details;

·         Assisting with filing pleadings with state and federal courts, including paper and e-filing;

·         Helping prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed;

·         Investigating facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action;

·         Gathering bills;

·         Coordinating schedules with experts and witnesses in preparation for trial.


Background Requirements:

·         Associate or college degree, or equivalent work experience;

·         Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel;

·         Strong oral and written communication skills;

·         Excellent organizational skills;

·         Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment;

·         Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team oriented environment;

·         Office administration experience.


Our hours are 8:30 – 5:00, but we offer flexible work arrangements and competitive benefits. Salary range is $57,500 - $75,000 (depending on experience) plus guaranteed retirement contribution and annual bonuses.
