Job description

We are seeking a highly driven leader for one of the most critical and high-impact roles at BillionToOne: the Senior Director of Software Product Management & Product Engineering.

In this role, you will lead the organization responsible for building and scaling BillionToOne's software products and platforms across both our oncology and prenatal businesses. This includes external customer-facing experiences such as provider portals and patient portals, as well as mission-critical internal software platforms such as an internal variant curation and report generation platform.

This is a unique opportunity for a product-first technology leader who combines exceptional product management instincts with strong engineering leadership experience. The ideal candidate is deeply customer-centric, understands how to build scalable and elegant software systems, embraces an AI-first mindset, and has experience leveraging emerging AI capabilities to deliver differentiated customer experiences and operational advantage. This leader should also have experience managing engineering organizations while maintaining a strong product and business mindset.

You will oversee both the Software Product Management and Software Product Engineering organizations, partnering closely with Clinical Product, IT/IS, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Operations, Commercial, and Executive Leadership teams to deliver category-defining software experiences and operational platforms that create a durable competitive advantage.

This is a hybrid (onsite 3 days/week) position reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Software Product Management and Software Product Engineering organizations across oncology and prenatal software products
  • Define and execute the software product and platform strategy for provider portals, patient experiences, operational platforms, and internal workflow tools
  • Drive an AI-first approach across both product development and engineering operations, leveraging modern AI technologies and tools to accelerate development and improve software quality and team productivity
  • Identify opportunities to transform emerging AI capabilities into differentiated customer-facing products and meaningful customer value
  • Partner closely with Clinical Product, Data Science, Bioinformatics, IT/IS, Operations, and Commercial teams to deliver category-defining software experiences and operational platforms
  • Lead engineering managers and software engineering teams responsible for architecture, development, infrastructure, quality, scalability, and operational excellence
  • Establish strong product and engineering operating mechanisms, execution frameworks, and prioritization processes to ensure predictable, high-quality software delivery
  • Build a high-performance culture centered around customer obsession, ownership, speed, technical excellence, and business impact
  • Serve as the company's leading expert on customer workflows and software user experience across provider, patient, and internal operational systems

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software product management, software engineering, or technology leadership roles with increasing organizational responsibility
  • Strong product management background with demonstrated end-to-end ownership of complex software products and platforms
  • Experience managing software engineering organizations and engineering leaders
  • Proven ability to lead both product and engineering functions simultaneously
  • Track record of building and scaling customer-facing software products and/or complex operational software systems
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, platform development, system scalability, and engineering tradeoffs
  • Experience leveraging AI technologies and AI-enabled development workflows to deliver customer and business value
  • Strong product instincts with the ability to identify and translate emerging technologies into practical customer-facing solutions
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Highly entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on when needed
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments with ambiguity and rapid iteration

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, life sciences, genomics, or regulated environments
  • Experience building provider-facing or patient-facing healthcare software products
  • Strong experience with US healthcare technologies and ecosystems, including healthcare data, interoperability standards, and clinical workflow systems
  • Experience working closely with AI, machine learning, or data platform teams
  • Prior experience leading organizations through significant scale and organizational growth

Benefits And Perks:

  • Working alongside brilliant, kind, passionate and dedicated colleagues, in an empowering environment, toward a global vision, striving for a future in which transformative molecular diagnostics can help millions of patients
  • Open, transparent culture that includes weekly Town Hall meetings
  • The ability to indirectly or directly change the lives of hundreds of thousand patients
  • Multiple medical benefit options; employee premiums paid 100% of select plans, dependents covered up to 80%
  • Extremely generous Family Bonding Leave for eligible employees (16 weeks, paid at 100%)
  • Supplemental fertility benefits coverage
  • Retirement savings program including a 4% Company match
  • Increase paid time off with increased tenure
  • Latest and greatest hardware (laptop, lab equipment, facilities)
  • Free daily on-site lunches provided from top eateries
  • A variety of perks on campus (state of the art gym, restaurant)
  • Free on-site EV charging (compatible with all EVs, including Tesla)

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of a (1) base pay range (actual amount offered is based on experience and salary/equity options split that the candidate chooses), (2) generous equity options offering, (3) corporate bonus program, on top of (4) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid parental leave, etc.).

For this position, we offer a total compensation package of up to $580,140 per year, including a base pay range of $257,243 - $300,117 per year.
