Job description
VEIR is seeking a Principal Solutions Engineer - Data Centers, to join our Product Team, who will serve as the technical expert on both VEIR's superconducting cable technology and the power infrastructure needs of data centers. This individual will play a key role in bridging the gap between our innovative power transmission solutions and customer requirements, engaging with high-level technical executives, engineers, and data center operators to drive adoption of VEIR's technology. We'relooking for someone who is excited to challenge conventional practices and communicate the value of superconducting solutions in a wide range of data center contexts. In this role, you will help foster VEIR'sbusiness relationships, market strategies, and collaborative partnerships.
The Product Team is responsible for overseeing the requirements, development and lifecycle of VEIR's superconducting products. Through close collaboration with our commercial and engineering groups, the Product Team ensures that the products developed meet the customers' needs and align with VEIR's business goals. The Team determines which product features are most valuable and impactful by evaluating factors such as the voice of the customer, market trends, technical feasibility and addressable segment size.
In the first three months you will...
- Come up to speed on VEIR's superconducting power solutions and use your expertise and knowledge of data center power systems to communicate to customers how VEIR's solutions can enhance efficiency and scalability for their data centers
- Develop and present technical customer roadmaps, electrical schematics, and integration strategies for incorporating VEIR's cables into data center power architectures
- Identify, iterate, and refine the VEIR technology applications and opportunities for data center applications.
- Supports VEIR's senior leadership in engaging with customer CTOs, VPs of Infrastructure and work directly with customer senior engineers to communicate VEIR's value proposition in both technical and business terms
- Collaborate closely with VEIR's engineering, sales, and product teams to align solutions with customer requirements
- Be an internal data center expert and resource for building VEIR's collective knowledge about data center power systems design and configurations
In the first six months you will...
- You'll have contributed to VEIR booking our first pilot project with a customer
- You'll use your expertise to design power distribution solutions that integrate VEIR's HTS cables with medium voltage (MV) switchgear, transformers, and circuit breakers
- You'll conduct technical assessments, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept projects to demonstrate the benefits of VEIR's technology
- You'll collaborate closely with VEIR's engineering, sales, and product teams to align solutions with customer requirements
By the end of your first year you will...
- You'll have used your expertise to work with hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center customers to understand their power infrastructure needs, pain points, and future growth strategies.
- You'll begin contributing to the execution of VEIR's first commercial project
- You'll have begun supporting the development of VEIR's next generation of products
To be successful in this role...
- You bring at least 10+ years of professional experience in data center power infrastructure, electrical engineering, and/or power distribution design
- You have a deep understanding of the diversity of existing data center architectures and know what factors ultimately drive specific technology and vendor selections when it comes to deploying new data center capacity
- You have experience with product design, development and deployment
- You'll have worked with hyperscale data center owners, col-location companies, design-builders, general contractors, and the major electrical OEM's. You bring expertise in low and medium voltage (480V-35kV) power systems, electrical schematics, and protection & coordination studies
- You bring experience working with data center customers to understand their needs and be able to drive adoption of VEIR's solutions and proposed data center configurations, based on those specific customer needs
- You have a strong understanding of data center electrical infrastructure, including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, PDUs, UPS systems, and redundancy planning
- You are knowledgeable about NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and Uptime Institute Tier Standards
- You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal). You can clearly communicate goals, findings, and issues across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- You are a highly motivated, self-starter who is detail-oriented with a positive approach to problem solving.
- You can work autonomously, with limited direction AND collaboratively across different departments, stakeholders, and customers to launch new products and continuously evaluate the performance of existing products.
- You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize.
- Able to manage a diverse set of opinions, advice, and recommendations and resolve conflicts effectively.
- You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions
- You are committed to buying into VEIR's mission and goals and adopting our core values.
VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices. The base salary range for this position in the U.S. is $190,000 - $210,000 per year + equity + benefits.
