Position Overview

Are you a senior power systems professional ready to step away from repetitive design loops and take true ownership of complex, critical electrical infrastructure? We are seeking a high-caliber Electrical Relay Engineer to lead the charge in safeguarding and optimizing our next generation of power assets. In this pivotal role, you will not just manage tasks; you will architect the protection strategies, lead advanced system studies, and steer complex grid and generation projects from initial concept through live field execution. Your technical expertise will directly defend the reliability and safety of vital utility and industrial power networks.

Stepping into our team means joining an engineer-driven culture that blends the deep technical resources of a full-service powerhouse with the autonomy and agility of a collaborative studio. We reject the rigid corporate hierarchy, choosing instead to provide our senior talent with genuine technical autonomy, direct client visibility, and a clear path toward executive leadership. Here, you will be empowered to solve sophisticated engineering puzzles alongside a multidisciplinary team, capturing lucrative profit-sharing incentives while building a tangible, long-term legacy in the power sector.

Core Responsibilities

  • System Architecture & Protection Design: Champion the design, specification, and development of sophisticated electrical protection and control schemes for high-voltage substations, power plants, and transmission & distribution infrastructure.

  • Advanced Power System Studies: Perform rigorous short circuit, load flow, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies to ensure optimal system reliability and safety.

  • Relay Logic & Programming: Program, configure, and validate SEL relays, developing custom protection logic and supporting seamless system implementation.

  • Equipment & Safety Engineering: Size critical electrical equipment, design robust grounding systems, and establish precise layout clearances to guarantee absolute compliance with safety and code demands.

  • Regulatory & Code Compliance: Act as the ultimate technical authority for project compliance with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and complex utility-specific standards.

  • Project Stewardship: Lead complex projects through their entire lifecycle, seamlessly balancing technical accuracy, strict project schedules, and budget allocations.

  • Multidisciplinary & Client Collaboration: Synchronize efforts across multidisciplinary engineering teams, field commissioning personnel, industrial clients, and major utilities to ensure flawless project delivery.

  • Quality Assurance: Review and approve advanced engineering calculations, complex drawings, and technical specifications for constructability and pristine quality.

  • Field Leadership & Commissioning: Spearhead field engineering activities, technical evaluations, troubleshooting, and commissioning efforts to bring complex systems online securely.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).

  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state.

  • Experience: 10–20 years of progressive engineering experience within a substation, utility, or power generation consulting environment.

  • Technical Expertise: Elite command of protective relays, relay coordination, grounding systems, and SEL relay programming.

  • Software Proficiency: Proven mastery utilizing industry-standard power system analysis software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower) for arc flash, coordination, and load flow studies.

  • Communication: Elite project leadership capability with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment and managing client relationships.

  • Travel: Willingness to travel approximately 5–10% for project sitewalks and field support needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sector Differentiators: Direct experience delivering utility-scale power generation or large-scale transmission infrastructure projects.

  • Field Acumen: Strong hands-on background in field commissioning, protective relay testing, and real-time troubleshooting support.

  • Automation Integration: Familiarity with SCADA, substation automation networks, and control system integration.

  • Mentorship & Leadership: Experience mentoring junior engineering talent and building technical capability within a team environment.

  • Advanced Grounding: Deep specialized understanding of industrial and utility grounding system design and soil resistivity analysis.
