Job description

License and Certification Qualifications: None required.
Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
Experience Qualifications: Three years experience in maintaining and supporting internet technologies required.
Skills Qualifications: Understanding of internet technologies including proxy servers (forward/reverse), content filtering, firewalls, Virtual Private Network (VPN), and Domain Name System (DNS) such as Berkeley Internet Name Daemon (BIND) or Active Directory (AD); understanding of networking fundamentals including Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP), switching, routing, network addressing, and load balancing techniques; ability to troubleshoot TCP/IP and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) protocols; ability to analyze HTTP access logs and use reporting tools; ability to work well and communicate with others in an effective manner, both written and oral; ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement; and experience with both Microsoft and Advanced Interactive eXecutive (AIX) operating systems.
Primary Responsibilities: Assist in the design, configuration, maintenance, and support of district internet, proxy servers, content filtering, firewalls, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Domain Name System (DNS), and load balancing solutions.
1.        Assist with proxy server administration.
a.       Configure and monitor proxy server solutions to ensure users can gain access to the internet.
b.        Field telephone calls, e-mails, and incidents reporting claims of related problems and work directly with help desk members to gather information and execute troubleshooting techniques on location at the schools.
2.        Assist with content filtering administration.
a.        Configure and monitor content filtering solutions and ensure users are subject to organization defined content access policies.
b.        Field telephone calls, e-mails, and incidents reporting claims of related problems and work directly with help desk members to gather information and execute troubleshooting techniques on location at the schools.
3.        Assist with VPN administration.
a.        Configure and monitor VPN implementations.
b.        Field telephone calls, e-mails, and incidents reporting claims of related problems and work directly with help desk members to gather information and execute troubleshooting techniques wherever a problem may arise.
4.        Assist with firewall administration.


a.        Configure and monitor firewall appliances that determine what applications and users are permitted and denied access in and outside of the district's network.
b.        Interact with application group requests that are made for access through telephone calls, incidents, change requests, and e-mails.
5.        Assist load balancer administration.
a.        Configure and monitor load balancing solutions for network applications.
b.        Interact with application group requests that are made for load balancing services through telephone calls, incidents, change requests, and e-mails.
6.        Assist DNS/IP address management.
a.        Configure and monitor DNS services for internal and external systems on the district network.
b.        Interact with application group requests for DNS services/IP addresses made through telephone calls, incidents, change requests, and e-mails.
7.        Assist reverse proxy administration.


a.        Provide a secure means for specialty applications hosted inside the district's network to be accessed by users outside the network.
8.        Assist network/internet application troubleshooting.
a.       Provide assistance in troubleshooting TCP/IP, HTTP, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), and SOCKet Secure (SOCKS) enabled applications.
9.        Assist with Project Management Office functions.
a.        Interact with the organization's Project Management Office as a Project Manager/Project Team Member.
b.        Provide written updates and documentation of project plans and status.
10.    Provide technical documentation as needed.
a.      Provide comprehensive and accurate technical documentation of all administered systems, such as configuration documentation as needed.
b.      Provide comprehensive and accurate documentation of the organization's interaction with those systems such as procedural documentation as needed.
11.     Perform other duties as assigned.  
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Possible prolonged exposure to cold and noise in a server machine room.
