Job description

Plan and Execute a Server Migration with Minimal Downtime Sep 23, 2025 - MidLevel $85.00 Hourly Overview We are a web hosting company moving our client's applications from an older server to a new, more powerful one. We need to perform this migration with minimal disruption to their services. The Challenge We need to migrate multiple client websites to a new server, but we are worried about downtime.

Our current plan is not robust enough to ensure a smooth transition, and any service interruption would be highly damaging to our clients. A poorly planned migration could result in significant downtime for our clients, leading to a loss of business and damage to our reputation. A flawed migration process also increases the risk of data loss.

Proposed Method The freelancer will create and execute a detailed migration plan. This includes a pre‐migration checklist, a strategy to minimize downtime (e.g., using a reverse proxy or DNS manipulation), a validation plan for post‐migration, and a rollback strategy in case of failure. Required Skills Expertise in server migration methodologies.

Experience with DNS management and reverse proxies (e.g., Nginx). Strong proficiency in Linux system administration. Excellent project management and communication skills.

Experience Required 5+ years of experience in systems administration or DevOps with a proven track record of successful migrations. Delivery A successful server migration with less than 5 minutes of total downtime. Support We require 2 weeks of post-delivery support to ensure the new server is stable and to address any lingering issues.
