POSITION DESCRIPTION: Senior AI Engineer


Location: Pentagon, Arlington, VA (Hybrid)

Status: Contingent Hire – Full-Time – Hybrid

Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance Required

MUST HAVE: Demonstrated experience developing artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), predictive analytics, simulation, optimization, and operations research solutions supporting Department of Defense logistics, readiness, and executive decision-making.

Position Summary

The Senior AI Engineer / Research Analyst provides senior-level artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, and operations research support to Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Installations and Logistics (I&L), and the Global Positioning Network (GPN) Program. Working in a hybrid capacity supporting the Pentagon, the position develops predictive models, simulation tools, optimization algorithms, and analytical products that improve logistics planning, operational readiness, and enterprise decision-making.

The Senior AI Engineer serves as the principal contractor technical lead for advanced analytics supporting LOG IT data, integrating artificial intelligence frameworks, simulation models, optimization methodologies, and operations research techniques to evaluate GPN throughput, asset distribution, network performance, and future operational scenarios. The position collaborates with Headquarters Marine Corps, Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), Combat Development & Integration (CD&I), Installations & Logistics (I&L), and other Department of Defense stakeholders to deliver data-driven recommendations supporting Marine Corps logistics modernization.

Working closely with the Senior AI Data Analyst / Analytics Team Lead, the position develops machine learning algorithms, predictive models, scenario analyses, and executive decision-support products that improve strategic planning and operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen with an Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance and ability to obtain a CAC card.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • Eight (8+) years of experience supporting Department of Defense artificial intelligence, machine learning, operations research, modeling and simulation, or advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Headquarters Marine Corps, Department of the Navy, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, or equivalent Department of Defense headquarters organizations.
  • Experience developing predictive models using large operational or logistics datasets.
  • Experience developing AI and machine learning models using TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience conducting statistical analysis, forecasting, optimization, simulation, and scenario analysis.
  • Experience using Python, R, and SQL for data engineering, analytics, and model development.
  • Experience developing simulation or optimization models using ExtendSim, OptDef, AnyLogic, or equivalent modeling tools.
  • Experience developing executive dashboards, analytical reports, and technical documentation supporting senior leadership.
  • Experience translating analytical findings into operational recommendations and executive decision-support products.
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, briefing, facilitation, and executive communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting Global Positioning Network (GPN), logistics modernization, Condition-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+), or Marine Corps Force Design initiatives.
  • Experience supporting CNA, CD&I, Marine Corps Systems Command, or Marine Corps logistics organizations.
  • Experience with cloud-based AI platforms including Microsoft Azure AI, Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Fabric, AWS SageMaker, or Databricks.
  • Experience developing digital twins, Monte Carlo simulations, optimization algorithms, or discrete-event simulation models.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, PMP, or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) certification.

Primary Duties

  • Develop and maintain predictive analytics models utilizing LOG IT and other Government datasets supporting Headquarters Marine Corps logistics and GPN operations.
  • Design, develop, train, validate, and deploy machine learning algorithms using TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other AI frameworks.
  • Develop simulation and optimization models utilizing ExtendSim, OptDef, and other operations research tools to evaluate logistics network performance, throughput, asset distribution, and resource utilization.
  • Conduct rigorous scenario analysis supporting GPN operational planning, logistics readiness, and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop optimization algorithms that improve asset positioning, transportation efficiency, maintenance scheduling, and logistics performance.
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple Government systems into predictive analytical models supporting executive decision-making.
  • Perform statistical analyses, forecasting, sensitivity analyses, Monte Carlo simulations, and operational risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with the Senior AI Data Analyst / Analytics Team Lead to integrate predictive analytics into executive dashboards, visualization products, and decision-support systems.
  • Evaluate emerging artificial intelligence methodologies and recommend innovative analytical approaches supporting Marine Corps modernization.
  • Develop technical documentation, analytical reports, executive briefings, white papers, and recommendations supporting Senior Executive Service (SES) and General Officer leadership.
  • Validate analytical models through testing, verification, calibration, and performance assessment.
  • Coordinate analytical activities with CNA, CD&I, Installations & Logistics (I&L), Government data owners, and contractor personnel.
  • Mentor junior data scientists, AI engineers, and research analysts in machine learning methodologies, operations research techniques, and software development best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with Department of Defense cybersecurity, data governance, model management, and records management requirements.
  • Perform additional artificial intelligence, machine learning, operations research, simulation, optimization, and technical leadership duties necessary to accomplish contract requirements.
