Job description

Position purpose
Responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care evaluation by following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
  • Verifies patient consent for procedures and ensures patient confidentiality. Obtains and documents health history, vital signs, health risk factors and assesses patient. Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations. Provides quality nursing care.
  • Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
  • Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Organizes documentation and accurate recording of pertinent clinical data to establish a concise record of the health care delivered. Assures and documents appropriate follow-up of patients.
  • Responds to incoming patient procedure-related phone calls.
  • Provides safe and proficient assistance to the patient and physician during procedures. Obtains a thorough understanding of each procedure and the equipment used during procedures.
  • Learn scope reprocessing techniques utilized by the facility.
  • Has knowledge of preparation and administration of all medications used in the facility.
  • Uses complete assessment skills to monitor the patient and proceed with corrective measures where indicated. Provides pre and post-procedure teaching to patients.
  • Attends and actively participates in department meetings and in-services offered.
  • Other duties as directed or assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: RN degree. Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Professional nursing experience, gastroenterology experience and IV placement experience preferred.
REQUIREMENTS: Current state registered nurse license. Current BLS certificate.
Performance Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Skill and knowledge in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing, and medical care coordination.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response calmly and effectively.
  • Skill in patient triage in person and on the phone.
  • Ability to read and interpret physicians' orders.
  • Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and document results.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
