About The Role

Avalere Health is seeking a Vice President level candidate to join our Evidence and Strategy practice within its Advisory capability. Our cross‑functional, US and EU based Evidence & Strategy practice provides exceptional consultation, evidence, and insights on key aspects of healthcare – including patient‑centric HEOR, quality of care measures, shared decision‑making, value‑based care, and health equity – to shape strategy for our clients.

Our mission is to improve quality of care, craft data‑driven strategies, drive patient‑centric outcomes, and ultimately provide the highest value to all our partners, including life sciences companies, payers, providers, and patient advocates. Our work is focused on 3 intersecting strategic pillars: Patient‑Centric Value, Evidence & Analytics, and Healthcare Strategy. Underlying all work is a deep commitment to data‑driven insights.

The Managing Director role within Advisory is a senior advisory leader and is part of the extended leadership team. Within our Evidence and Strategy practice the Managing Director role is a key member of the leadership team and leads thought‑leadership and mentorship with colleagues across the practice. As a Managing Director in Evidence and Strategy, you will support client engagements that inform business and evidence strategy related to the strategic direction and execution of projects in partnership with the cross‑functional teams to generate data to answer decision‑makers’ complex questions on the value, impact and program evaluation of clients’ products and disease areas of focus.

The ideal candidate has current or considerable previous consulting experience with deep knowledge of engaging with life sciences clients from a business development perspective in support of developing and interpreting evidence and communicating value for life sciences products. In addition, as a leader in the practice you will support, mentor, and contribute to designing, measuring and evaluating interventions, initiatives and implementation from all perspectives. Furthermore, you will have a proven‑track record of conducting and leading healthcare research studies for clients across the life sciences ecosystem.

What you'll do
  • Demonstrates superior consulting acumen, deep client relationships and anticipates client needs and impacts of healthcare landscape changes
  • Leads in generating business with new clients and growing business with existing clients. This role is dedicated ~75% to business development and ~25% to project delivery.
  • Manage multiple clients and short‑ and long‑term deliverables to ensure that Avalere's knowledge and expertise are available to meet client needs.
  • Lead as a Project Lead or Executive Sponsor to a range of projects and project teams including creating protocols and evaluation plans, executing strategic and tactical projects, and preparing/presenting through manuscripts, posters, presentations.
  • Presenting, both formally and informally as well as to clients and at external meetings, the results of research to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Develops and executes a range of projects, including writing RFPs, vendor selection, and project management, including budget and timelines.
  • Proficient at mixed‑methods research and the development of strategic plans, studies, and analyses to support patient access and value‑based outcomes, all within a highly matrixed team environment.
  • Building and fulfilling integrated RWE generation and strategic plans in close collaboration within and across Avalere and Avalere Health.
About you
  • Advanced degree in health policy, public policy, healthcare management, public health, public administration, health economics, business administration, with a relevant discipline with 8-10 years of relevant experience OR an undergraduate degree in the same or similar areas with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Examples of relevant work experience including and prioritizing: consulting firms, with focus areas of pharmaceutical, emerging biotechnology, diagnostics and/or digital health, health plans and providers, and the healthcare industry at large.
  • 5+ years of management/supervisory experience with excellent leadership/mentoring skills in developing staff.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Solid writing and storytelling skills as a foundation for professional business communication.
Additional skills and competencies
  • Ability to establish personal credibility as a strategic, RWE expert with clients.
  • Significant and sustained project management experience that includes interacting with and presenting to senior‑level executives and/or health policy leaders.

$250,000 - $275,000 a year
