Control Room Operator

Massachusetts

$50 - $60 per hour

A Control Room Operator is required for a power plant operations and maintenance role in Massachusetts, paying $50 - $60 per hour. This position is suited to an experienced power plant operator with strong control room, plant systems, mechanical and electrical maintenance experience.

The Control Room Operator will monitor plant performance, respond to alarms, support start-up and shutdown activity, complete operational logs, and help maintain safe, reliable and compliant plant operation across a 24/7 power generation environment.

The Control Room Operator Role:

  • Monitor major plant systems and equipment continuously using control systems, instrumentation, gauges and readouts.
  • Respond to alarms, abnormal conditions and process issues, taking corrective action to maintain safe and efficient operation.
  • Carry out plant start-up, shutdown and normal operating procedures across turbines, HRSG and auxiliary equipment.
  • Support preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance on plant mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Complete electrical switching, tagging and Lock-out/Tag-out procedures in line with approved site practices.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, environmental records, maintenance documentation and compliance reports.
  • Carry out routine cycle chemistry testing and make adjustments within established operating parameters.
  • Use CMMS systems to record maintenance requests, work orders and completed actions.
  • Support housekeeping, safety, security, environmental compliance and plant integrity activities.
  • Participate in shift rotations, outage support, overtime, on-call assignments and off-hour call-ins as required.

Control Room Operator Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of major power plant equipment; 6 years’ related experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in a utility, heavy industrial or power generation environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills.
  • Experience with digital control systems, computer-generated data, instrumentation and plant monitoring systems.
  • Ability to read one-line diagrams, technical documentation, gauges, readouts and colour-based indicators.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Second-Class Engineer License from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineer’s License preferred.
  • Hoisting License HE-1D or higher, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Hoisting License HE-3A or higher, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Legally authorised to work in the United States without employer-sponsored work authorisation now or in the future.
  • Successful completion of the POSS / MASS programme will be required to be considered for this position.

This role involves work in power plant environments, including exposure to outdoor conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, high-voltage equipment, confined spaces, ladders, stairs, PPE requirements, post-offer physical examination, drug screening and random drug testing.
