The Opportunity

We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Procurement Specialist, Fleet, in our Lake County, Abbott Park, IL location.

The Senior Procurement Specialist, Fleet is responsible for leading sourcing initiatives, category execution, supplier performance management, and cost‐optimization projects for Abbott's Fleet category across North America. This role partners closely with Global Procurement, Fleet Operations, Finance, Legal, HR, and Business Units to ensure Abbott maintains a safe, cost‐effective, compliant, and operationally reliable fleet.

  • Proactively seek innovative ways to improve the procurement processes, cycle times, and customer service levels
  • Full understanding of the "One Procurement" strategies. Strong knowledge and project work across multiple categories that impact the team positively.
  • Works within defined processes and procedures and may help determine appropriate approaches for change.

Core Job Responsibilities

Category Strategy & Execution

  • Support the development and execution of Abbott's Fleet category strategy in alignment with Global Procurement objectives and regional business needs.
  • Analyze spend, market trends, cost structures, risk factors, and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead initiatives that optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), including acquisition, leasing, maintenance, telematics, fuel, and remarketing programs.

Sourcing & Contracting

  • Lead competitive sourcing events (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) for fleet‐related goods and services.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, service levels, and contractual protections in accordance with Abbott's procurement policies and legal standards.
  • Ensure contracts are compliant with Abbott's global templates, governance structures, and risk‐management practices.

Supplier Performance & Relationship Management

  • Manage day‐to‐day supplier engagement, performance reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs, scorecards, and governance routines to ensure high service and operational reliability.
  • Drive supplier innovation, cost savings, compliance, and continuous improvement projects.

Cross ‐Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Abbott Fleet Operations to optimize fleet lifecycle processes and policy compliance.
  • Partner with Finance on budget planning, forecasting, savings validation, and financial modeling.
  • Collaborate with Legal, HR, Occupational Health, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to ensure alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Sustainability & Innovation

  • Support Abbott's sustainability goals by evaluating fleet electrification, hybrid technologies, alternative mobility solutions, and emissions‐reduction initiatives.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, data tools, and telematics solutions to enhance fleet efficiency and driver safety.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education : Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Experience : Minimum of 4+ years in procurement, supply chain management, or fleet management.
  • Skills : Contracting and negotiations experience, outstanding verbal communication, corporate fleet management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of procurement best practices and supply management strategies.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in developing fleet management strategies, improving asset utilization, driving down operational costs with process and cost improvement projects
  • Experience with developing fleet program roadmap to support corporate initiatives

The base pay for this position is $78,000.00 – $156,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
