Job description

ABOUT SKYNET MTS

SkyNet MTS is a managed technology services provider supporting small and mid-sized businesses across a range of industries, including regulated healthcare and financial clients. We manage our clients' networks, servers, cloud environments, and security posture end-to-end — this is a hands-on engineering role, not a help desk seat.

THE ROLE

We're hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to own escalated, high-complexity support and project work across our client base. You'll be the technical backstop for our L1/L2 team — the person who gets called in when a server won't boot, a migration needs to happen cleanly, or a security incident needs a fast, correct call. This is an execution-focused senior role: you'll be handed scope and documented runbooks and be trusted to run with them, not asked to design the architecture from scratch.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Serve as the L3 escalation point for our support team — advanced troubleshooting on Windows Server, networking, and M365 issues that L1/L2 can't resolve

- Execute server and infrastructure migrations: new domain controller builds, Azure AD Connect sync setup, file server replication and cutover, and related project work

- Perform deep Windows Server recovery — boot failures, SFC/DISM repair, component-store issues, Hyper-V cleanup

- Write and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation, remediation, and monitoring conditions in our RMM platform

- Administer Microsoft 365 / Entra ID: Conditional Access and MFA rollouts, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Microsoft Purview (retention, eDiscovery, encryption)

- Triage security incidents from our EDR/SIEM stack and drive identity-related incident response (compromised accounts, malicious inbox rules, token theft) to resolution

- Administer backup infrastructure (Veeam) and perform file- and system-level restores

- Configure and troubleshoot UniFi networking gear; basic router/firewall familiarity a plus

- Maintain clear technical documentation for the processes and systems you own

- Mentor L1/L2 technicians on identity, M365, and security fundamentals

WHAT YOU NEED

- 5+ years in an MSP or similar multi-client IT environment, progressing from L2 into L3-level work

- Demonstrated hands-on experience executing a server/domain migration (not just supporting one) — new DC stand-up, AD sync, file server cutover

- Real PowerShell scripting ability — you write scripts, not just run ones someone else wrote

- Strong Windows Server administration and troubleshooting (Server 2016+, RDS, Hyper-V)

- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 admin: Entra ID, Conditional Access/MFA, Exchange Online, SharePoint

- Comfortable being the collaborative escalation point — you ask questions when scope is ambiguous and loop in the team rather than going it alone

- Clear, professional client communication — this role interacts directly with client contacts, including executives

- Must be able to pass a background check (required for access to clients in regulated industries)

NICE TO HAVE

- Microsoft Purview (retention/eDiscovery/encryption) experience

- Veeam backup administration

- Huntress, SentinelOne, or similar EDR platform experience

- UniFi or MikroTik networking

- Compliance/security-advisory writing (NIST, CIS, cyber insurance questionnaires)

- Azure Virtual Desktop Experience

BENEFITS

- 1 week vacation after 6 months of employment

- Health, dental, and vision insurance (effective after 90 days)

- 401(k) with company enrollment

- Fully remote — work from anywhere in the U.S.

HOW TO APPLY

Submit your resume along with a brief note on the most complex server/infrastructure migration you've personally executed — what the environment looked like, what you built, and what went wrong along the way.
