Executive Development information

What is executive development?

Executive development refers to the process of preparing and enhancing the skills, knowledge, and abilities of individuals in leadership positions within an organization. This can involve formal training programs, coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job experiences designed to help executives lead more effectively. The goal is to ensure that leaders are equipped to drive organizational success, adapt to changing business environments, and manage teams efficiently. Executive development is crucial for succession planning and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.

What are some typical challenges faced in an executive development role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Executive Development often encounter challenges such as aligning leadership programs with evolving organizational goals, engaging busy executives in ongoing learning, and measuring the impact of development initiatives. To address these, it’s important to maintain strong communication with senior leaders, tailor programs to specific business needs, and use robust metrics to track outcomes. Collaborating closely with HR, business unit leaders, and external partners can also help ensure initiatives remain relevant and effective.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in executive development, and why are they important?

To excel in Executive Development, you need a strong background in leadership theory, talent management, and organizational behavior, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), assessment tools, and certifications such as SHRM or HRCI is highly beneficial. Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills help drive effective leadership programs and foster executive growth. These capabilities are crucial for shaping future leaders, aligning talent strategies with business goals, and ensuring long-term organizational success.

Job description

Hansen Gress is a fast-growing, Alaska-based Managed Services Provider with deep roots in Juneau and active expansion into Anchorage.
We are not a corporate machine, and we don’t want to be! We run lean, trust our team, and believe in leadership that works with the team, not above it. We are relationship-first, execution-focused, and allergic to bureaucracy.

We’re looking for a highly organized, proactive Executive Assistant to support our COO, helping her stay focused, organized, and effective while keeping operations moving smoothly across the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage the Executive leadership calendar and meetings

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact, handling communications with discretion

  • Track priorities, deadlines, and key initiatives across teams

  • Coordinate cross-functional meetings and ensure action items are completed

  • Handle documents, and administrative tasks with care and confidentiality

  • Coordinate office procurement and logistics, including supplies, meeting support, local deliveries, and shipping services

  • Manage facilities and safety across Juneau and Anchorage office, including vehicle coordination, building maintenance, vendor oversight, and day-to-day office logistics

  • Coordinate and book organizational travel, ensuring cost-effective, timely, and well-organized arrangements

What You Bring To The Table

  • 3+ years supporting senior executives

  • Exceptional organization, communication, and judgment

  • Comfortable juggling priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure

  • Strong tech skills (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, collaboration tools)

What You’ll Need

  • Ability to pass a basic background check for airport security badging

  • Valid driver’s license (or willingness to get one) and the ability to drive. Driver policies apply. Please note that we do not expect you to have a car.

Where You’ll Work

  • This is an in-office role in Juneau.

  • This is NOT a remote position. We provide relocation assistance.

What’s In It For You

  • Full-time, permanent role

  • Compensation: $30/hour

  • Health insurance (with vision coverage)

  • Retirement plans

  • Flexible scheduling policy

  • Mobile device plans reimbursement

  • Work in Juneau, where meaningful work meets stunning nature with mountains, trails, and ocean right outside your door.

  • Relocation assistance available

Why You’ll Want to Work with Us

Employee satisfaction and growth is important to us! We are committed to helping employees dedicate part of their paid time to personal growth through courses and certifications relevant to their specific interests, research and development, and team-building opportunities. See what else our current employees have to say.

Hansen Gress is committed to equal treatment and opportunities for all employees and job applicants. We are dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse company and have no tolerance for discrimination or harassment. We strive to provide meaningful opportunities for all, particularly those who have been traditionally marginalized in tech fields.
