Job Description
The incumbent in this position is responsible for directing, planning, and managing the operations and activities of the Seminole Tribe of Florida's Emergency Response Departments, which include Seminole Police, Fire Rescue and Emergency Management Departments. Work involves establishing strategic plans, goals and objectives for all the Public Safety Programs, ensuring that strategic plans support the broad STOF mission, goals and objectives. The individual coordinates all Department activities with the STOF Gaming. The Executive Director of Public Safety reports to and consults with the Tribal Council in determining plans and policies to be observed in police operations. Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Planning, Public Safety, Business Management, or a closely related field is required; Master's Degree is preferred. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience working in a Police Department, with at least five (5) working as Police Lieutenant or in a higher sworn or civilian command level is required. Demonstrated ability to manage public services, community relations, law enforcement, emergency services, fire rescue and other programs affecting the safety and welfare of communities in an executive leadership/senior level capacity is required. Possession of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Certification is required. Knowledge of applicable Florida State and Federal laws is required. Knowledge or experience with Native American culture is preferred. Capability build positive working relationships and garner the respect of Tribal elected officials, Tribal communities, Police and Fire Chiefs, Directors and external partners at the local, regional, state and national levels is required. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License is required along with the ability to travel regionally and internationally as necessary. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, strong communication, interpersonal skills, written skills, proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
