Job description

Position Overview: Rome Health is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Controller to lead the financial operations of our hospital. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced finance professional to make a significant impact by overseeing critical accounting functions, ensuring financial integrity, and guiding executive management through detailed financial analysis and reports. Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Leadership: Direct and manage the hospital's financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, budgeting, and cost management.
  • Budget and Financial Reporting: Lead the comprehensive preparation and analysis of the hospital's budget, including salary, capital, and operational expenses, and assist departments with budget preparation. Oversee the generation of internal financial reports and performance metrics for executive management.
  • Cost Accounting & Reimbursement: Ensure accurate accounting practices for reimbursement processes, including Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurers. Lead efforts to develop cost reports, reconcile financial statements, and analyze reimbursement trends.
  • Team Collaboration & Supervision: Manage a team of finance professionals, including the Finance Manager, Payroll Manager, and Accounting Supervisor. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the finance department.
  • Financial Analysis: Prepare in-depth financial analyses and reports on income, expenses, and earnings to help guide hospital management decisions. Interpret financial data and provide actionable insights on internal economic conditions and trends.
  • Compliance & Best Practices: Ensure adherence to corporate accounting policies (GAAP), internal audit guidelines, and all regulatory requirements. Manage the preparation of the CMS/DOH institutional cost report, 340B program compliance, and other critical regulatory filings.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive improvements in financial processes and systems, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and continuous monitoring of departmental performance.
  • Special Projects: Lead or support special projects, financial studies, and initiatives that contribute to the hospital's financial performance and operational success.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hospital fiscal services, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Modeling, Reconciliations, Pivot Tables, Logic Formulas).
    • Familiarity with financial accounting systems, finance/billing systems, and database management.
    • Strong understanding of cost accounting, budgeting, third-party reimbursement, and financial reporting.
    • Knowledge of hospital revenue cycle, charge master, 990 reporting, and debt management.
    • Experience with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and financial reporting requirements.
    • Familiarity with DSRIP VBP/VBPQIP, CMS cost reports, and NYSDOH financial regulations.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with additional hours as required.
