To thrive as an Executive Assistant, you need excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and proficiency in office administration, often backed by a relevant diploma or degree. Familiarity with scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and collaboration tools like Zoom or Slack is typically required. Outstanding communication, discretion, and problem-solving skills set exceptional Executive Assistants apart. These competencies ensure smooth executive operations, effective time management, and a high standard of professional support.

Is EA a dead-end job?

An Executive Assistant (EA) role is typically a stepping stone that can lead to higher administrative, managerial, or specialized positions. Many EAs develop skills in organization, communication, and technology that support career advancement within organizations or across industries.

How does an Executive Assistant typically collaborate with executives and other departments within an organization?

Executive Assistants work closely with senior leaders, managing their schedules, preparing reports, and facilitating communication between departments. They often act as a liaison, ensuring that information flows smoothly and that executives are well-prepared for meetings and deadlines. Collaboration with HR, finance, and other teams is common, as EAs coordinate projects, organize events, and handle confidential matters. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to balance priorities and support organizational goals.

What are Executive Assistants?

Executive Assistants are skilled administrative professionals who provide high-level support to executives and senior managers within an organization. Their duties typically include managing schedules, organizing meetings, handling correspondence, preparing reports, and coordinating travel arrangements. They act as a gatekeeper for their executive, prioritizing requests and ensuring efficient workflow. Executive Assistants often handle sensitive information and must maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

What jobs make $10,000 a month without a degree?

Executive assistants typically do not earn $10,000 a month without significant experience or working for high-paying executives. However, some high-level freelance or consulting roles in fields like sales, digital marketing, or real estate can reach that income level through commissions, bonuses, or entrepreneurship, often requiring strong skills, networks, and self-management. Most jobs with such earnings without a degree involve specialized skills, certifications, or entrepreneurial efforts rather than traditional roles.

What exactly does an executive assistant do?

An executive assistant provides administrative support to executives by managing schedules, organizing meetings, handling correspondence, and performing various clerical tasks. They often use tools like calendar software and require strong organizational and communication skills to ensure smooth daily operations.

What is an EA salary?

An Executive Assistant's salary varies based on experience, location, and industry, but typically ranges from $50,000 to $80,000 annually in the United States. Senior EAs or those supporting high-level executives may earn over $100,000, especially with specialized skills or certifications. Compensation often includes benefits such as health insurance and paid time off.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced professional environment, communicates with confidence, handles sensitive information with discretion, and brings a high level of ownership to every task. If you are known for anticipating needs, solving problems before they arise, and keeping leaders focused on what matters most, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact every day.

Why Thompson Thrift?
Thompson Thrift is an integrated, full-service real estate company engaged in the development, construction, leasing, and management of high-quality multifamily communities nationwide. We're committed to building exceptional places โ€” and developing the people who make them possible.

At Thompson Thrift, you'll find:

  • Values-Driven Culture โ€” Excellence, Service, and Leadership guide everything we do
  • Career Growth โ€” Training, mentorship, and long-term development opportunities
  • Work-Life Support โ€” Competitive benefits, flexibility, and wellness programs
  • Real Impact โ€” Hands-on involvement in industry-leading multifamily projects

Your Role as an Executive Assistant

As an Executive Assistant, you will provide high-level administrative support to executive leadership, helping them operate efficiently and effectively in support of company goals. You will be a key partner in keeping priorities on track, communications organized, and important initiatives moving forward.

This role requires exceptional judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and attention to detail. You will manage competing priorities, coordinate meetings and communications, prepare reports and presentations, support special projects, and represent leadership with a high degree of professionalism in both internal and external interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level administrative support to senior leaders and executive team members
  • Manage calendars, coordinate meetings, and help prioritize schedules and shifting business needs
  • Prepare, update, and distribute reports, presentations, correspondence, and other key business materials
  • Draft professional emails, letters, memos, and communications on behalf of leadership
  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, materials, invitations, and follow-up items for internal and external gatherings
  • Serve as a point of contact for visitors, business partners, and internal team members, ensuring a professional and welcoming experience
  • Support special projects such as budgeting, market research, hiring coordination, social media initiatives, and corporate responsibility efforts
  • Maintain organized electronic files, records, company documents, and correspondence
  • Handle confidential information with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism
  • Provide back-up support to other executive assistants or office support team members as needed
  • Help foster a collaborative, service-oriented team environment through strong communication and leadership by example

Our Ideal Candidate for this Role

  • Education
    • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
      Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an administrative assistant or executive assistant role
    • Experience supporting high-level executives strongly preferred

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and professional business writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • High level of discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other administrative tools
  • Ability to think strategically, solve problems, and proactively recommend solutions
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable navigating changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding service to internal leaders, team members, and external partners
  • Leadership mindset with the ability to mentor, guide, or support other administrative professionals

Why This Role Matters
