Assistant Director, Sales - Hard Rock Hotel | San Diego, CA
Coury Hospitality has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Director of Sales at Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, where iconic hospitality, high-energy experiences, and exceptional service come together in the heart of downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.
This is a leadership role for a competitive, strategic, and highly motivated sales professional who knows how to win business, and knows which business is worth winning. The ideal candidate understands the dynamics of the San Diego downtown market, has a proven track record with high-volume group sales, conventions, and city-wide business, and brings the energy, relationships, and commercial instincts to help lead a team that fights for every strategically valuable opportunity.
Reporting to the Director of Sales, you'll help shape sales strategy, lead and develop the sales team, cultivate key relationships, and drive revenue across group, corporate, meetings, and special-event business.
What You'll Do
As a key leader on our Sales team, you will:
  • Partner with the Director of Sales to develop and execute strategic sales plans that achieve and exceed revenue goals.
  • Lead from the front, actively solicit, negotiate, and close high-value group, convention, corporate, and special-event business.
  • Leverage deep knowledge of the downtown San Diego market, competitive landscape, major demand generators, and city-wide convention business to identify opportunities and position the hotel to win.
  • Lead the team with a competitive, winning mindset, creating urgency around prospecting, conversion, account development, and closing.
  • Evaluate opportunities strategically, knowing when to fight for the business and when to walk away based on profitability, need periods, displacement, rate strategy, and overall hotel objectives.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with corporate clients, meeting planners, convention organizers, travel partners, and key industry contacts.
  • Manage and grow key accounts while developing new business opportunities across corporate, group, meetings, and leisure segments.
  • Support complex group contracts, negotiations, and high-value opportunities from initial lead through close.
  • Conduct compelling client presentations, site inspections, sales calls, networking events, and industry appointments that showcase the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego experience.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Sales Managers and Coordinators, setting clear expectations and holding the team accountable for results.
  • Monitor team performance, pipeline activity, conversion, pace, production, and revenue results to identify opportunities and drive accountability.
  • Partner closely with Catering, Events, Banquets, and Operations to ensure promises made during the sales process translate into an exceptional guest experience.
  • Ensure client expectations and event requirements are communicated accurately and effectively throughout the organization.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, industry developments, and emerging business opportunities to keep the hotel ahead of the competition.
  • Analyze sales reports and performance metrics to refine strategies, maximize revenue, and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Assist with sales forecasts, budgets, reporting, and strategic business planning.
  • Maintain accurate account, activity, pipeline, and revenue information within hotel sales systems.
  • Represent Hard Rock Hotel San Diego with confidence, energy, professionalism, and pride at every client interaction.

What We're Looking For
You might be our ideal Assistant Director of Sales if you:
  • Have 4-6+ years of hotel sales or hospitality experience, with demonstrated success in a leadership capacity.
  • Bring meaningful experience in the San Diego downtown hotel market, with an established network of local and regional relationships strongly preferred.
  • Have proven experience selling high-volume group business, conventions, city-wide events, and/or large-scale meetings.
  • Are a competitive, driven sales leader who genuinely enjoys the pursuit of winning business.
  • Know how to balance relationship building with strong commercial instincts and disciplined revenue strategy.
  • Are an exceptional negotiator, closer, influencer, and relationship builder.
  • Know how to coach a team, create accountability, elevate performance, and inspire others to achieve more.
  • Are financially savvy and understand how sales decisions impact occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, profitability, and overall hotel performance.
