Job description

Position: Assistant Controller

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Compensation: Up to $155,000–$165,000 Base DOE + 10% Bonus

Work Type: Onsite (occasional flexibility)

The Kostelic Agency is conducting a search for an experienced Assistant Controller to join a rapidly growing, multi-state organization headquartered in Phoenix.

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, where you'll help lead the accounting function through the company's next phase of growth. The organization has grown from approximately $300M in annual revenue in 2025 and is projected to exceed $400M this year, driven by continued expansion into new markets and strategic acquisitions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building processes, partnering with operations, leading teams, and rolling up their sleeves in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Scope & Impact

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes while ensuring timely, GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
  • Oversee general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, inventory accounting, and financial statement preparation.
  • Own technical accounting areas including ASC 842 lease accounting, fixed assets, and internal controls.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions, including purchase accounting and post-acquisition integration.
  • Lead annual audit activities and serve as a key liaison with external auditors.
  • Drive accounting process improvements, ERP enhancements, and system implementation initiatives.
  • Partner closely with Operations and executive leadership to improve reporting, strengthen processes, and support continued growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred; MBA a plus).
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience within multi-entity, multi-location organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close.
  • Hands-on experience with ASC 842 lease accounting, fixed assets, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • ERP implementation or system conversion experience preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and/or ServiceTitan is highly desirable.
  • Private equity and M&A experience is a plus.

The Ideal Leader

This organization is looking for a true working manager—someone who leads by example, enjoys solving problems alongside their team, and naturally takes ownership.

Success in this role will come from balancing strong technical accounting skills with the ability to build relationships across Accounting and Operations, drive process improvements, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Organization projected to grow from $300M to more than $400M in annual revenue this year.
  • Approximately 1,200 employees across 23 states, with continued national expansion.
  • Named to the Inc. 5000 list of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies multiple times.
  • Significant visibility and partnership with executive leadership.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact through process improvements, operational partnership, and systems enhancements.
  • Long-term runway for career growth as the organization continues to scale.
